This is tried and true: want to build wealth, avoid having a car payment.
Used car/truck + a solid mechanic == +++much more wealth retention than buying a new vehicle. (Especially a POS Ford)

It's almost never a good financial decision to buy another vehicle. It's almost always cheaper to fix them. Even if you need a new engine and it's 6k

Does your truck have the 5.0 V-8? Mine did, and the intake manifold had to be replaced twice in 2.5 years of ownership. It was a nice truck, other than that issue.
After a call to Ford's national customer service center proved to be less than satisfactory, and upon learning that it was a $1,500 repair out of warranty, I traded it for a Chevy.
I hope you have the eco-boost V-6, or that you've never had that intake problem.

We have 2 cars and my work truck. Bought all 3 with cash as I made a commitment not to have a car note when we came back from overseas last time. Now we are getting ready to leave the country again and I’m really happy not to have ridiculous car notes on some vehicles we would be leaving behind.

You could option out a XLT to almost Lariat prices but a mid range one was mid 30s. Current prices are nuts in comparison.
They might sticker for low $40s but actual sale price was low or mid $30s. At the Ford dealership on I-10 in Katy I test drove one that was like $42k. This was June 2017. Salesman came right out and offered it for $34k. Similar thing happened with my dad that same year. He got an XLT price down to $32k.

ETA: I’m referring to the MSRP
Ah, yeah. Absolutely correct. I was talking about walk-out price.

I can tell you this. I’m currently looking for a used truck 18+ ram or ford and if any truck comes up 30-38k with anything around 40-60k miles it’s gone before the dealer puts pictures online.
It’s nuts and I don’t know how so many people are paying for these. It makes no sense to me.

People either didn’t learn their lesson or weren’t adults yet when the economy crashed in 2007/2008. Americans were carrying massive amounts of debt then too.

Mini Van
Odyssey or Sienna
These aren’t cheap either, but they are much better value.
I was resistant to buying one, but My wife wanted it, so she got it.
It’s been the best purchase I’ve made in 17 yrs as a husband and 12 yrs as a father.

Same with my 2016 GMC SLT, sticker was around $50k sale price was $39k at Beck and Masten in Houston, in August towards the end of model year when I buy cars or trucks. Today, they're around $60k msrp with some models having $4k GMC discounts.
Just read the average F-150 Lightning 2022 vs 2023 price is up 40%, I suppose due to high demand. Despite Ford's CEO recently admitting they're having significant quality issues across the board in all car and truck models, it seems P.T. Barnum was correct.
Been looking for a loaded Toyota Highlander and they can be almost as expensive as a Lexus RX 350. I usually keep vehicles for 7-8 years, 10+ is my new number.

would be painful but maybe we need 14% interest rates again just to reset the bubble from the decade plus of free money and money printing.
Let's do it. I don't plan on financing anything again anyway.

I’ve never understood why people shell out extra money just to drive a SUV instead of a minivan. Esp when most SUVs are just minivans with less useful dimensions. Nobody is impressed with your Explorer, mama.

Prices will not come down
Corporate profits were at all time highs this past year
They know they have us by the balls
It isn’t just inflation

I been looking at Suburbans. For one fully equipped it's almost $90,000. It boggles my mind that regular working folk are paying $1500/month car notes for 72 months.

I just don’t understand who is paying that much for a fricking pickup truck.

Why not buy a used suv. I just purchased a used grand Cherokee for $32,000. People are just nuts
