I don't understand why they just didn't do this for everyone instead of diploma privilege.

They can have open book. It’s not going to help that much. Good luck looking shite up in the middle of that test. Only took me 9 shots but 10 was lucky.

However some of the text questions exactly match or strongly mimic the questions in the sample test books. A lot of questions are recycled

The question is if it is open book and they ask a similar question and you basically copy the answer from the study test book (which theoretically would also save you time). How would they judge you on that. the answer would clearly be right but also it also defeats the original purpose of the question to see if you can apply your own thought process to diagnose the situation and formulate an answer

Will they penalize you for getting the exact right answer on an essay but knowing you copied it or would they penalize you more for getting a less correct answer that was given on your own merit?

I could see a cheat sheet potentially helping for the multiple choice

I would say at least 50% of my law school exams were open book at least where they allowed the rule book if not the casebook too. Useful to use the specific language of a statute or case but if you didn't already know the material or where to find it the time crunch would get you in the end. I am not sure I could have done any better on an open book bar exam if I didn't know it or know exactly where to look for the "answer" I wouldn't have had time to find it.

Wait. I bet you I could pass this with google. I have a post grad degree. Can I pay $300 and give it a try? What’s the testing requirement?

Nevermind. I can’t even sit for it.

The $800 or so to take the test And application process

The only other requirement you need is to spend about $40,000-$145,000 to get your law degree in 3 years and you’re gold

K. I'll be sure to leave the room if I'm in a lawyer's office and I see that the diploma on his wall says 2020.

I wish you could still take the bar in La without going to law school.

I hear ya! I'd try it out myself just for gits and shiggles.

But we already have a frickton of lawyers in Louisiana.

Well I took six law classes as part of my post grad degree with law students. I’d probably fair better than most non law students but don’t know how I’d do. Probably fail. All I do is deal with contract law all day, which I don’t even know is part of the test.

I bet you couldn’t.

Go ahead and print a practice test and take it. And set the clock to the same time constraints. Post your score after.

If I was an attorney in LA, I would be absolutely embarrassed at how this has played out.

None of this crap would fly in the CPA world.

Med Boards.

Usmle has pass rate of like 95% for people that deserved to get into med school on their own merits

Much lower for those that got in on quotas.

Just curious, does Louisiana administer the Multistate Bar Exam? An open book policy is rendered useless with that portion of the exam.

The bar is way easier than passing the CPA,

The part that makes the CPA easier is that you take it by part so you can fail one and just take it next testing period. The bar is all or nothing. I will say the depth of knowledge the CPA tests, especially FAR, is nuts.

Nope.

However, they have added a little multiple choice to the test for the last decade or so.

I think it's still mainly essay.

You have 18 months to pass all 4 after you pass the first section or they start expiring. Sounds like a long time but it happens quick.

I don’t care for SJW’s because they usually don’t play fair.

In all fairness Helmut has been pulling a 4.0 or close.

Pass rate was in the mid-60s when I took it. Don’t know about now

It's easier now that they "softened" it.
