Limo was out of control and was careening downhill. He blew through 3 intersections with 18 passengers. That doesn't happen unless something went very wrong with the limo.

A parent’s worst nightmare..... times 4.

I can’t imagine the grief. No way I’d ever recover.

Lots of stupidity took place for this to happen.

Hey, lets put 18 adults into an extended vehicle. 18 fricking people? That's a minimum of 3k lbs. Plus the weight of extending it?

Dumbass driver, dumbass riders. It sucks they died but Dammit people, think.

Worst part is they killed 2 innocent bystanders.

Don’t know much about limos do you? These kind of vehicles are on the road with passengers daily. Something went cataostrophically wrong

It's possible the driver had a heart attack or a seizure and his foot rammed the accelerator. I saw that happen once. Fortunately it was only the driver in the car. This one had 18 helpless people in the back. That's like a plane crash.

18 passangers?

That was asking for a tragic accident.

People can downvote away but one thing wrong with this country is peoples inability to think for themselves.

. One would think such a dramatic Bethel would require two vehicles hitting each other head-on.

If two vehicles are going 60MPH and hit head on the results are the same as if they were going 60 MPH and hit a parked car or other stationary objet, and not equivalent to a 120 MPH crash which is a common misunderstanding. Each car decelerates from 60MPH to 0 during the impact dissipating the same amount of energy as if they each had decelerated from 60 to 0 by hitting a stationary object, there was a "Mythbusters" episode devoted to the physics incolved.

Wonder if the driver had a health event of some kind like a heart attack or a stroke.

Just read a report that the intersection was notorious for accidents and tractor trailers often blowing through it at high speeds. So much so that heavier trucks are banned from that stretch of road.

Also, one of the family members said they received a text from one of the victims saying the limo was in poor condition. Apparently the limo was sent in place of a bus they had originally rented but broke down.

It was a 17 year old stretch Excursion, I bet the brakes gave out or were just worn enough to be ineffective.

Just looking at Google Maps, I don't understand it. You have plenty of visibility of the stop sign and know that an intersection is coming up. I guess I'd have to drive it myself to understand the dangers.

Thats a long way down that hill. This is from near the top and facing the direction the limo apparently was traveling...

Follow the map down the hill to get an idea. Lose your brakes on that decline and you're in trouble.

Looks like an awfully big and old piece of shite to trust with 18 people. Brakes probably gave out on the way down the hill.

The reddit thread says that it was one of those hills where you wonder how the people get to their houses during winter.

Likely brake failure going down the hill.

Agree. Imagine that driver if the brakes failed Gaining more speed as your going down hill with no way to stop. That road goes downhill for a few miles
before ending at a cross section road stop sign.
Makes sense where the car ended up. Im guessing all the victims died on impact at the bottom of the hill. Sad

2001 Ford Excursion limousine

That limo was coming down that hill probably over 60 miles per hour

Nearly two-decade old limo likely badly in need of maintenence driven at way too high a speed on a shoulder-less rural road with a 3000lb+ payload. If this were a regular routine for this limo then it wasn't a matter of "if" but a matter of "when" a tragedy like this would occur.
