I’m about to switch to Progressive for 50% the cost. GEICO has been great but F them for raising my rates drastically the last two cycles. No claims and I’ve got multiple policies with them. Auto insurance is such a scam that never rewards loyalty.

There is zero reason the state cannot cancel car registration when insurance is not on a car. When you switch insurance the state is informed. If there is no new coverage applied in 30 days then you revoke registration no license plate turned in or coverage ontained you fine the shite out of them.

The fact is though that Louisiana doesnt want to fix the problem.

You can shop it now...any good agent will assist you through the process and make it fairly easy to change.

Does LA stack Uninsured Motorist coverage? Alabama does for up to 3 cars. You might want to scale back a shade on the UIM coverage, especially if it does stack and maybe look at lowering the comprehensive deductible if that doesn't move the meter much OR get a glass replacement rider on it. I would also look at bumping up the bodily injury liability to $250k/$500k or $500k for per person/incident. You should be able to do that inexpensively and while those numbers appear high, they really aren't. Don't make a several hundred thousand dollar mistake you can fix for $5 per month or so.

Yea because people like me have had insurance for 15 years and never made a claim

I hear this a lot and instead of looking at an insurance carrier as making out like bandits, I would be thanking God...because you are one split second away from joining the ranks of those who have a blemish on their record and are darn glad they had good insurance for when they needed it.

It’s more like 15%.

According to the Insurance Research Council, an independent nonprofit, 13 percent of Louisiana drivers do not have insurance. The Louisiana Department of Insurance said its figures show 15 percent of drivers do not have insurance.

I do understand that, which is why I continue to pay for insurance for that one possible time I may need it.

Call Insurance Network of Louisiana. I don't see why they couldn't shop for you in Laff when I live in Nola and they are based in Baton Rouge

Good deal... I guess I am referring to those who act arrogantly about it and act as if they should be paying next to nothing for coverage when at any given point in time they could have a need for a huge payout, bigger than those they are pointing fingers at for keeping their rates elevated.

Louisiana is one of only a few states that allow a plaintiff to directly sue an insurance company (Minnesota is another).

Thus, the insurance company is on the case caption and a direct party to the suit. In most states, it's a mistrial if a jury even hears there is insurance. Louisiana juries hear there is insurance, which loosens the purse strings.

Those other states also have different rules for UM, which require an actual determination of fault and damages before a policyholder can make a demand for UM.
