If you had the option to start a new job immediately after background checks and drug screen was confirmed for double your current salary would you put in a 2 wks notice? That would be a lot of salary lost just to be nice.

Would they give you a two week notice if they could fire you and double their revenue for a two week period?

no, I'd just take my current boss into the bathroom stall and establish dominance

No. You are nothing but a dispensable commodity to your employer and they will drop you in a split second if they need to. You don’t owe them the courtesy of a two week notice.

Just depends on if you want to leave a bridge or burn all the bridges on your exit.

Probably not. But be careful about burning bridges in your business. It can come back around in bad ways.

How long do the background checks and drug screen take?

I would offer them a two week notice.

The may ask you to leave immediately, but you've burned no bridges.

At least that's the way it used to be done.

Yes do the right thing. Many companies may release you anyway, but don’t burn a bridge over two weeks. Even if the company treated you like shite, put in the notice.

Been in this situation twice, did the right thing both times. Fast forward several years later, both places have contacted me again about coming back for better jobs.

first you decide to quit your current job

then you tell your current employer you quit

then your current employer decides to a, lock you out of the office immediately
b, or allow you to do an orderly retreat

Never burn bridges if you don’t have to even when in a shitty situation. A 2 weeks notice is respectable. It’s a very small world out there.

Also, a lot of benefits, vacation payouts, etc hinge on a two week notice. May want to read your employee handbook.

If your company is legitimate, they would likely be fine with you putting in a two weeks notice, request an exit interview, and mutually part ways or offer a way to keep you on.

It wouldn't look good if you just ditched your job, something happen within your current job, then you need to apply again and can't use the job in which you are leaving as a reference.

Put in two week notice after putting in a two week PTO request that was accepted. Duh.

How grateful were you when your first employer offered you a job to give you the experience you needed for this next job? How poor are you to not finish out two weeks?

Only if I thought the job I am taking may not last a long time. You may need to use the previous job for a reference some day. If I am confident that the new job is a winner, no problem not giving 2 weeks notice.

I may take someone off the schedule early but would never do that. I've always had the approach that if they do not finish a notice they terminated me and my services were no longer needed. My only obligation to that person is a w2 and a final paycheck, nothing else. It's a bit satisfying when they call me looking for a form filled out or something along those lines.
