Anyone who has ever played the game knows it was a hit. You don't line up like that. 
Can you imagine lining up like that and what the coach would do to you - forever!
He'd hunt you down once a year just to make your life miserable and remind you how you lined up like that in a game.

I believe 100% the coach ordered this. Its a sensitive thing as far as the kids are concerned as they were on the field following orders and somewhat brainwashed. That said, their seasons/careers are over and should be.
The coach should be the one prosecuted.
