2 COVID-infected hairdressers see 140 clients. Nobody got sick.

Did I say I was on a crusade against masks?
I truly think masks help on a population level, but not necessarily on an individual level.
My point was that he and the folks in the article are propping masks up like it is the silver bullet here. They point to recent studies, studies that admit that their evidence for masks working is "low."
The reality is that it was probably a multitude of factors working in concert that prevented those infections.
Folks not being susceptible, folks being innately immune, being conscious about washing one's hands before and afterwards, the hairdressers more than likely spending most of their time behind the client, the infected individuals might not have been shedding much virus (as that seems to differ from person to person and time during the infection), and, yes, even wearing masks.
They just say the hairdressers were symptomatic, but don't say what those symptoms were. One shouldn't assume that they were coughing in their masks the whole time. Were they gossiping and talking as much as traditionally happens in a salon?
If they weren't actively coughing and people weren't as talkative, the chances of transmission drastically drop, with or without masks.

Science will tell you it's the exact opposite.
They help reduce spread from symptomatic individuals. As in, people actively coughing out the virus.
They don't make much difference at all when everyone else wears them, even if they have the virus.

For all y’all that still think this is a joke, my cousin has gotten covid like 4 times since January. He has preexisting conditions which make him more at risk (fibromyalgia, on disability) when he gets sick he can barely get out of bed, hurts all over, he has cold sweats, it’s way worse than the flu. The doctors give him medicine and he gets better then he gets it again. It’s really sad, I wish people would stay home and wear masks so he wouldn’t keep getting exposed

I’m not saying there is going to be a second wave or anything like that, but to claim we have reach herd immunity is completely untrue and there is zero statistical evidence to even make that claim.
Are you taking into account the evidence that "shows" 35-60% of a population are innately immune?
Combine that chunk with the ~20% of people that actually gets sick, and herd immunity isn't out of the question.

What an idiotic point. Those samples were gathered in mid April. I guess the percentage of people infected hasn't increased any in the last 2 months.

But this is where it would add up to having a population effect. If it slightly reduces individual transmission, that reduction is amplified at scale.
If it drops R from 1 to 0.9, that's not that big of a deal person to person but is big to a population.
Granted, I do accept my thinking on that could be flawed, and would take like 80% of the population wearing masks to work.

You’re right. It’s probably jumped from less than 1% to 65% in less than two months.
