I was but a 2 year old toddler but I hazzily remember raising old glory and chugging a cold milk on the back patio while paw paw fried some catfish. I can almost smell it now.

It was a good year for pop music

We'll lay back and observe the constellations
And watch the moon smiling bright
I'll play the radio on Southern stations
'Cause Southern belles are hell at night
You say you came to Baltimore from Ole Miss
A class of 7-4 gold ring
The eastern moon looks ready for a wet kiss
To make the tide rise again,

I was in the super dome for the 4th of July kicker with Willie Nelson, Emmy Lou Harris, Charlie Daniels, Jerry Jeff Walker, Cheech & Chong and many others.
It was wild. Saw some pretty fricked up shite.
It was cool as hell though.

I can't complain if I end up checking out after getting to Sestercentennial. Kinda like the guy who wanted to see Star Wars 7 before passing on.

This thread is joyous, yet depressing at the same time.

Never realized how many old farts were here.

I remember it. People were patriotic then. We had a parade, like most cities, and I was in boy scouts and we marched. Still have my uniform.

It was the freedom train. I remember going to see the displays. I think they had a sneaker from Bob Lanier in the sports part.

I was a high school senior, the teachers all urged us to pick red, white, and blue for our senior colors so of course we picked dark blue and light blue. They were not happy, fack them.

We painted the fire hydrant on our street like part of an american flag, it looked pretty good.

I was able to vote for Ford over Carter; Carter didn't take office until 1977.

I lived in Pittsburgh and the Steelers beat the Cowboys in the Superbowl to start the year - very nice.

We watched the July 4 fireworks at the Point in Pittsburgh - great show and a beautiful setting.

Bruce Jenner won the decathlon and both he and the Olympics were awesome.

Music was still very good but disco was arriving and the long slide down had begun.

The 80's were better.

Yes, we went down to the levee and watched the fireworks. Lots of people there.

I was 4. My only memory is struggling to stay awake to see the fireworks late that night.

Also, didn't people collect bicentennial coins?
