That stretch of road was just horrible. Dont see the need to expand it but it definitely needed to be replaced.

Use that $190 mil to go towards fixing the BR traffic issue.

You can't fix the BR traffic issue until you fix the BR politician/voter issue.

I'm fine with LA investing in infrastructure along I10. At least someone is getting it done.

This mindset is why Baton Rouge is running so far behind. In the 90s they tried to widen the interstate in BR and tried to put a new bridge south of the I-10 MRB, but the public and politicians were against it. Look at us now.

Everybody is an expert and also there are many who believe that any expenditure is too much and that we could do with only the bare minimum....because we don't need that type of infrastructure. So will just have a road crew go out there and just fill up the pot holes with asphalt....that's the most cost effective!!!!

Serious question. Are you aware of any plans to widen the Basin Bridge? Will the Feds/State 3 lane I-10 back to the Texas State line?

And the plan is to eventually expand all of I-10 to 3 lanes so I've always thought why incur repair + expand expenses in the next 10 years rather than doing it all at once. It has to be more cost efficient in the long run (~10 years) to do it this way.

yes it did. But an overlay would have been sufficient. The money being spent on this project is nauseating. And as the OP asks, why? I've been commuting on that stretch for over 12 years and there isn't (IMO) a justification for the widening. Could've overlaid it and put the rest of the money elsewhere.

That stretch of road was in the running for the worst stretch of road in Louisiana. You get off the spillway bridge and the potholes were everywhere. It needed work done badly.

2nd only to the stretch of I-12 between Sherwood Forest Blvd and O'Neal Ln.

If you can get through that section without something falling off your vehicle your're having a good day.

I hope they do something about the ridiclous 100 foot stretch where cars are supposed to exit and enter i-10 and i-49.

I hit a railroad tie there a few years ago. It must have fallen off of the back of a truck. Had 4 or 5 of us that hit it. Wasn't pretty.

What is the most important need in Louisiana on I-10? Baton Rouge east of the bridge.

What it's getting $190 million in funding? A much lesser problem on I-10.

Welcome to the most fricked up state in the country. Keep on keeping on, LA.

The $60 million federal grant for widening I-10 allowed the state to shift money that had been set aside for the project to other work, including a new Washington Street I-10 exit in Baton Rouge near the Mississippi River Bridge – a notorious choke point in the city.

The most important need in Louisiana on I10 is a new bridge in Lake Charles. That one is sketchy as hell.

We increased lanes between Baton Rouge and Prairieville and Baton Rouge and Watson because everyone is moving out there and commuting to/from Baton Rouge but I don’t think that is the case with Lafayette/Breaux Bridge/Henderson.

I sure hope they continue the expansion for the remaining 5 miles or they expanded it for nothing because it will not alleviate any of the traffic between BR and Prairieville. It wasn't the best situation, but that money could have gone somewhere else if it doesn't go from Highland to Prairieville.

THIS. I'd be okay with spending 190 million just to fix this little piece of hell. It's like a battle royal between vehicles entering and exiting the interstate.

The speed traps set by the Henderson Police right there on I10 could pay for the $190,000,000?
