On the menu, at nearly every sit down restaurant in America, it will say “parties over #__ will be charged 18% gratuity”.
I’ve had it happen probably 50-100 times. They’ll leave an annoying spot for “additional gratuity”.

Me too...and the funny thing is, the amount of the gratuity added in is usually smaller then I was going to tip. (that doesn't mean I didn't add to it)

Pretty standard for automatic gratuity to be added for parties over a certain size. And most places have a sign posted stating such. Because with bigger parties, the server tending to that group is often ONLY tending to that group until they leave. So if the big group stiffs them on a tip, the server works their arse off for 1.5-2+ hours for practically nothing

Walking a tab on a restaurant/bar/tavern is theft. Someone has to pay for that food, electricity, cook wages, air conditioning, rent and Insurance. Not to mention wait Staff making sure that you got your butter for your bread,,,

Usually restaurants charge an additional fee for large groups of people.
