Sure it’s been talked about. But the bill was $550 for 20 people. That’s only $27-$28 each. How cheap are these damn people?

Only 2 people paid their portion of the tab

You are a complete moron then because any party over 6 in many restaurants charge an automatic gratuity. It isn’t racism or some ill conceived conspiracy lol. This is why we are over as a society because your vote counts the same as functioning adults who aren’t mentally retarded

Stuff like this forces restaurants to insist on holding a card for large groups

They’ll just dispute the charges

If those 2 people paid separately, then how was this considered a group?

Did they all ask for separate bills?

Just because they all sat together, doesn't mean they are a group or should have been charged together. I kind of see the point about an automatic gratuity if that's the case. They still should have paid and tipped. But it's should not have been added on..

They stayed behind and said those people might run, but I had these things. Charge me for those items.

Not too difficult.

If they sat together, they were one group. Whether they paid separately or together they automatic gratuity applies.

It says on the menu a 15% gratuity would be added to a party of 6 or more.....

The receipt says they charged them 20%....like I said, 2 sides to every story

Even if that is the case, is an extra 5% added on the autograt allow you to just walk up and leave without paying?

Kinda takes away the "two sides to the story" angle you just pushed

It’s what’s on their website.

You don't automatically win every dispute. What happens in a dispute is the credit merchant pulls the money disputed and holds it in like an escrow. Then you provide evidence to their bank on why the dispute is invalid. Sometime between 30 and 60 days the money is released back to the business or returned.

I probably fight a dispute a year. Usually it's people with an AMEX trying to get stuff for free. I've won way more disputes than I lost.

Weird, I'm white and I had gratuity automatically tacked on 3 times this week. Shockingly, the situation never made news headlines.

That doesn't mean anything. There are any number of restaurants that have menus posted on the world wide web which are already out-of-date.
