are you familiar with the geography along this route? Where else in LA would you have it stop between BSL and NOLA? Also, you are aware you need tracks and a station in order to have a train stop right?

Slidell has a train station.

Hammond had a train station too.

Maybe it should stop there on its way to BSL.

Amateur.

Touche my friend. My 22yo self is having a good laugh, but my middle aged self can't afford to lose a DL and would strongly prefer not to defend a DUI ticket. Turns out when you have this thing most people call a "house" and I call it a money pit, your dumb stuff budget dries up...

OweO implies that it does. He represents that you can get from DeLisle,MS to Slidell, catch Amtrak there and get to NOLA in a total of 1.5 hours.

He and Peej should open an online store for erroneous information.

Slidell to NOLA does exist, different tracks. Come from the north not the east.

Yes.

Legally has to be in a checked bag.

By practice, you aren't getting checked.

Just wait until you're retired - like me. Talk about dried up. Everything's dried up. lol

The fact is that I just took a train from New Orleans to Chicago (City of New Orleans) for a 4 day weekend, and then took a train (Empire Builder) over to Idaho for a couple of weeks. It was awesome. As un-American as it may sound, I'm sick to death of driving. If I never had to have a car again, I'd be just fine with that.

Yes. Zero security checks.

I rode a train from Slidell to Birmingham in 96 by myself. My dad was working in Birmingham and he got us tickets to the Auburn game. I enjoyed the ride. Times have changed though.

All you who are against it should really give a train ride a try. It’s incredible.

Trains are wonderful. The roads are so crazy and stressful these days. If we ever get the BR to NOLA line up and running I’d happily relax on the train versus stressing about getting down to the city, finding acceptable parking, etc.

Correct. NOLA to Slidell is on Norfolk Southern track that goes along the lakefront and over the Lake Pontchartrain railway alongside the Hwy 11 bridge. New Orleans to BSL is on CSX track that goes down Chef and over the Rigolets Pass Bridge.

With all the traffic from the new Buccees the train will probably be faster than driving

Depending on your mpg, you can get there cheaper just driving.

It is 140 miles.

Had a frequent homeless person on my walk to work a long time ago and one day she slowed me down saying that her boyfriend had just hit her over the head with a brick and she was trying to get enough for a train ticket. I decided that I never wanted to get on public transportation at that point in time. Bonus story about the same individual: I also saw her sitting at an intersection drinking out of a gas jug one time, and another time she was taking a shite between vehicles in our parking lot.

So you couldn't find a designated driver?

Thanks for keeping the roads a bit safer today.
