Immediately move it to a new account at a different bank.

The biggest question is which bank, one in Switzerland or the Caymans?

My choice would be the Caymans, only a short flight away. Open an account, wire the money.

you would come back to the States? Not like your bank isn't going to see a $3 million wire transaction at some point.

Let me guess...you have to buy $1.5 million in gift cards from CVS to return the money?

The Cayman account would only be the first transfer nor would the Caribbean be my final destination.

No, it's not that scam. This is a real world scenario, as in, it happened recently to someone I know well and is ongoing.

Report it to the bank even though it would be fun keeping it.

Wire it to an offshore account asap. Close original account soon thereafter. Get new identity and live nicely for 5-10 years.

I had a distant relative get a call from the department in the La gov that handles unclaimed property and money. They told him they had a check of nearly $80,000 of his. Right name, DoB, etc. Relative got the check and began making calls as to why he got it. Narrowed it down to some kind of oil money he should have gotten, but didn't. But he had no oil on his 7 acres and none around the area. After about a year I told him maybe it was a secret gift from an uncle who had died, and was in the oil business. He cashed it. Two years later he got a call saying it was a mistake. Something about the wrong address and oil rights etc. He said "nope", and kept it. They never attempted a second call.

Make a large donation to both the rep and dem parties... And consider it the cost to keeping the rest

No. The first transaction was reversed after an inquiry to the bank. The same amount was deposited again soon after. So just $1.5 million.

Oh, so just some carrying around cash. Not worth the hassle

I let it sit there.

When the mob/cartel asks for it back, I tell them it’s right where they put it by mistake.

When the bank takes it back from their error, it’s right there.

don't remember going to jail for this
There was a case some years ago in Australia I think where that happened with 100K+. The couple quickly made withdraw and disappeared with it. They were eventually caught and thrown in jail.
