Some place called the Renewable Fuels Association was linked in the CBS article as a refute to the claims that E15 gas does not cause more air pollution and isn't as volatile as gasoline with 10% ethanol. According to their 2018 blog post the Trump administration looked into making E15 a year-round thing.

fricking stupid on multiple levels.

At BEST, Ethanol is a net zero change. Adding it cuts the quality of the gas so you may be stretching the gas but have to use more of it for the same mileage.

Realistically, this means higher food prices due to corn prices going up, shittier mileage, AND cars being ruined due to fuel lines melting or water in the tank causing the ethanol to separate from the gas and stalling out the car.

“Looking into it” means that the answer was no and doesn’t go into why it didn’t happen.

If it was a great idea, it would probably have happened by now because this isn’t exactly new tech.

I got this far and before reaching the inevitable conclusion that this is a purely political move…
quote:

EPA to try to fight high gas prices at the pump with ethanol blend this summer
For those who didn’t open the link, that’s the title.

Since when exactly is it within the EPA’s purview of authority to fight high gas prices at the pump? I’ve always had plenty of problems with the EPA (as I’m sure most here have), but it is unequivocally outside of their realm of responsibility to be “protecting” consumers from expensive gasoline.

If anything, expensive gasoline limits demand, which decreases emissions, which should be exactly what the EPA is trying to achieve. But what, because those high prices are bad for elected democrats it’s okay to just throw out the rule book and work in direct opposition to your agency’s mandate? You really think that’s okay, EPA? And more importantly, you really think so lowly of the population that you think we won’t see how empty and hollow of a political move this is?

It’s officially time that we disconnect the moniker of “elites” from the coastal political class. These folks are clueless.

So they are going to save the planet by using up twice as much natural resources to make the ethanol, and produce a product that puts even more harmful, disgusting crap in the atmosphere?

Makes sense, this plan can't obviously fail.

Ethanol is awful for the environment. The entire process is terrible.

From what I understand, we will get worse gas mileage and more pollution with E15 gas.

But as long as the Biden Administration just avoids pushing for increased oil production, they’re fine with the left. Everything else can be ineffective or cause more pollution, but as long as they don’t increase production, the left is satisfied.

The only people who benefit from ethanol are corn farmers, ethanol producers, and politicians getting paid off by corn farmers and ethanol producers.

It’s the biggest crock of crap we’ve even done agriculturally.

It’s like Biden will do everything on Earth, EXCEPT the thing that will actually solve the problem he “says” he wants to solve.

Let me give you some advice. Corn is for eating. It does not belong in your gas tank. Back when I drove a gas burner, I only used ethanol free gas. A lot of folks don’t know this but Its better for your engine and also give a 4 or 5 mpg boost. However the only gas station near my house that sold ethanol free gas went out of business. So I decided to get an electric vehicle. I got the Chevy Bolt. Great car, I would advise you to buy one and not worry about ethanol anymore.
