I’m not the douchebag claiming San Fran is some high minded intellectual city, while ignoring some of the awful and disgusting things about said city.

When did I ever do that?

I just find it hypocritical when people shite all over cities/states that are, by all statistical measurements, better than Louisiana.

Not a great thread to do that in.

But it doesn't go as far as people saying they'd retire at 50 in rural Mississippi. It's a very mundane income for a family. Maybe upper middle for someone single

Our family of 3 makes a good bit more than that in BR and I consider us middle class

Why? Because this thread points out that it costs more money to live in a statistically better place?

I am amazed that the people commenting think companies don't give their employees a housing allowance.

It's like people who don't know a thing about sf are suddenly experts on it.

What are your statistical measures? I’m not claiming LA is the bees knees but it is better than San Fran in some areas, this making your “by all statistical measures” a very stupid remark.

Here’s some just off the bat...

1) cost of living
2) fish and game
3) gas prices
4) economic freedom
5) small business freedom - not great but less expensive and less regulation than California in general
6) tax burden - would be better without Gov. Honor Code
7) its a good debate but food. It’s also personal preference.

I’m sure there are others, but I’m not arguing LA is better by every statistic than San Fran. That would be asinine.

What a shallow argument. It's not like it's 2% more expensive.

I'd quit while you're ahead.

Because price of living is a legitimate reason SF isn't preferable to the South?

Not disagreeing with you that SF isn't better not considering money btw

You make a good point. LA does win in terms of certain things, including some of those you listed. I guess I was thinking of minor things like:

1) Education
2) Job Opportunity
3) Income
4) Healthcare
5) Wage

You know, the little things.

I'm not here to argue on behalf of LA because it's the most tiresome subject on this board but this is all relative to cost of living. You can live a better life in some areas of the country on 70k than you can in others on 125k.

Also, everyone's idea of quality of life is different. Some people value living in a big international city. Others value living near family or having lots of outdoor activities.

No argument here. But again, I didn’t start off this thread making asinine remarks and sweeping generalization.

Healthcar - you may want to qualify what this entails. Health insurance? Health costs? Health of populace? # of regulations imposed on the health community?

Job Opportunity - I have no idea what the job prospects are there. The homeless problem doesn’t really help your argument there.

Income - agreed. We are a poor state. But our $ goes a lot further than the $ there. Does it make it better? Depends. Do you like more disposable income? Are you able to afford anything with the small % of your income that isn’t completely taxed away?

I messaged one of my friends who works for one of the big tech companies and she said you don't know anything about SF

Now, some workers get zero down mortgages but by and large the high pay is to help cover the cost of high housing

I never wondered. I knew damn well that acknowledging that SF just might have some advantages over LA would lead to a plethora of downvotes and arguments.

Let me be clear, you're 1000% right. I would never argue anything else.

Liking SF, NY, Chicago, or any other major city is entirely subjective. Whatever place makes you happy, that's where you should live.

I'm downvoting and arguing with you because you're acting like a petulant man baby. I don't live in LA and don't really ever plan to again, but a lot of the shite you are saying is just dumb.

You're missing the whole point I'm making. Is having to make 150K to be middle class worth it? You'd be living extremely well in LA with that income.
