I don’t care about any of it, but do think the not guilty plea is the cause of this…kinda forced the hand of big brother. Seems pretty guilty to me. I have been guilty of breaking stupid laws before. Just pay the fine.
All this “we are wasting time and money” crowd misses is that we wouldn’t be here if they just paid a few bucks out for the ticket
Most importantly, wtf is a squirrel table?

I had a police officer pick up my 9 year old, put him in the back of a police car, bring him back to my house, and tell my wife she was getting arrested if we let him wander off again. His crime? We let him walk a half mile from our house to cut down bamboo for a fort he was building.
Don't back the blue.
Seriously the entire boot licking of the authorities we see as normal in this country today is about as un-american as one can be. The power of the state should be visited upon children as little as possible.
We had a similar situation with our son. He was 7, at a local public play ground and apparently got in a fight with another kid. Just a dust up, nothing that hasn't happened millions of times in the world. Police show up at our house about 9 oclock and say there was a complaint and asked if our son was home. I told them he was home, he was in bed because he was fricking 7 years old and if they needed anything from him they could get it from me. They proceeded to describe an act of "violence" their words. What they were describing was the dust up our son had mentioned when he got home. I informed them that we were aware and had taken appropriate measures - which consisted of ignoring it because it was a dust up between 2 - 7 year old boys. They mentioned DFACs and I lost it on them....told them if the state or county could do a better job of raising him they were welcome to give it a fricking shot and there was no better time than the present for them get started. They started in with the "thats not necessary" to which I responded whats not necessary is you frickers ringing my doorbell at 9 PM over a dust up between 2 - 7 year olds and I would go get him now and they could haul him off and get him in the system that very nigh if they thought that was what their job was. They backed down immediately....started apologizing left and right and could not get out the driveway fast enough. Kissing the arse of a tyrrant is un-American. Being polite and respectful is a 2 way street.

I read the story. Under the state's law, to be a 'bike' that a kid can ride, it had to have under a 750W motor. In fact it had like a 4500W motor, i.e., six times as powerful. Kids have no business riding something like that on public streets. They are a menace to themselves and others. The real failure here is that the cop did not arrest the dad for letting him ride it on the street.
Even better it would be ideal if kids were NEVER allowed outside the house, under any circumstances, because they could be injured or injure someone else. Hell, why stop with kids? Technology has rendered leaving home obsolete...no one should ever be allowed to leave home without permission from the government, which is infallible. The world would be so much safer if only degenerates did not insist on leaving the house all the damn time....we really should make it a crime to do so.

if he was not allowed to go on his way he was indeed being detained. He was a menace to society and should feel thankful he wasn't gunned down by the infallible state. Goofy little bastard. Imagine going fishing on your new dirt bike....the nerve.
What are the odds that while this cop or cops were involved in this incident that they was a red light within a mile that was ran multiple times by adults in cars exceeding the speed limit? The only question is if there is a light within a mile because if there was some one was running it at excessive speeds while these cops were capturing an arch criminal bent on taking over the world.....

I think this is the part that is being missed. I would bet money this criminal did not have a business license to manufacture and sell squirrel tables. Odds are pretty good this "lucky to escape the death penalty" miscreant manufactured said squirrel tables in a facility not zoned for such activities. If the authorities don't capture this menace to society and execute him before dawn the following day they have not done their duty to us concerned citizens. This little fricker obviously thinks he can do anything he damn well pleases and as such should be removed from our midst as soon as possible before he opens up a fricking lemonade stand and kills 7-8 million people....

I read this thread yesterday and sat on it overnight but I see it has gone to 7 pages so I will comment.
I held off because this will get me called a BOOTLICKER!!! (Dumbest insult ever) and a Pansy Leftist all in one shot.
Here is what should have happened and why it didn’t. The cop should have tossed that kid in the back seat and the electric bike in the trunk of her patrol car. Driven him home, knocked on the front door and told the parents the kid can’t be on the street riding that thing. The parents would then thank the officer, offer her a bottle of water or a coffee to go and she would politely decline, thank them and go back to work. The parents would then sit their child down, explain why he can’t ride that bike on the street and explain how the police officer showed discretion and how that’s a good thing. Follow that up with a stern warning that if the kid does it again, the parents and not the police will be his downfall and that they won’t hesitate to sell the bike on Marketplace in two seconds. Problem solved, problem staying solved.
Instead, our society has taken all the discretion and human out of police work and demands them to be infallible social worker robots. At the same time, if she does let the kid go and he gets squashed by a car 100 feet down the road, the parents sue the officer and the department for not arresting the kid. If the officer does arrest the kid, then they are a fascist. It’s a no-win situation for everyone involved. When it comes to kids and the police, I would like to return to the days of no arrests or reports where kids are involved. But that pre supposes that the parents can be counted on to step in and handle things.

Good! Hopefully it starts to curb this issue with all these kids, terrorizing neighborhoods and shopping centers on these bikes. If you’re one of these parents be better.
It also can be dangerous. In just the last two or three weeks we've had 2 kids get killed on e-bikes in my area.

Back when COVID was just starting, and government was losing it's mind, Prattville, AL cops admonished two kids throwing a football at a city park. When two boys throwing a football in an open area is a problem for LEOs, we have a problem with government and LEOs.
I was threatened with arrest in Pasco Washington in March of 2020 for bank fishing about a half mile from another human being. If the 2 cops who made that threat had not walked up on me I would have not come into contact with another person from the time I left home until I got back home. All fishing was closed during COVID but these were cops, not game wardens, and they did not know this, I informed them of it and told them I couldn't care less if the state of Washington had closed fishing because the state of Washington had sold me a fishing license that was good for a year and therefore I was going to fish. They did not care if I was fishing, there concern was that I had left my house. That was the crime I would be arrested for. I told them if they thought that was the right thing to do to go ahead and do it but until such time as I was in handcuffs I would continue to fish. They conferred and said they'd be back, and were, with a game warden. He also threatened to arrest me and I told him the same thing....they decided it wasn't worth the effort because they weren't idiots and did not want to be the face of that silly bullshite. When they left I left....fish weren't biting, and as the 2 cop cars, the game warden and myself drove past a boat ramp where there were about 5000 people, news crews from Seattle, CNN and FoxNews, covering a protest by fishermen which turned into a minor riot when arrests were attempted. No arrests made and the governor rescinded that order within a few hours of that protest winding down. When someone says the people who will come to round up your guns will be the police they ain't lying....they are incapable of thinking unless someone points out how stupid they are behaving. I had 2 and a game warden change their minds and it took 5000 angry fisherman to change the mind of a hundred or so different LEOs but change their minds we did.

On what grounds LOL? The police have no liability in the situation as described. There is nothing in any legal action to indicate the police are liable if someone is killed doing some stupid shite that the police were aware of. The police are sworn to protect the public, not individual members of the public. Even then they are immune to litigation when they fail to do so.
What is far more likely the cop responded because someone complained and instead of telling the complaining party to shut the frick up they molly coddled them out of a need for public support to be used against such time as they inevitably over step and actually violate someone 's civil rights and are taken to task for that.
I had this happen about 6 months ago. Family friend parked on the street in front of our house 65 feet from a stop sign. Someone calls the cops. Cops pull up our friend had gone to the car to get his cell phone and came back in and told us the cops were about to tow his car. He was 17 at the time. I go out and ask the cop what's up and in typical cop fashion she says it is none of my business. I tell her it is absolutely my business as she is about to tow a vehicle legally parked in front of my property to which she replies "its not parked legally - the HOA does not allow parking in the street. She had to maneuver through about 50 cars parked in the street to get to our house by the way. I informed her that HOA rules weren't laws and she had no authority to enforce them, nor did the HOA since they have refused to do so repeatedly and in writing. She then said it was parked illegally because it was too close to the stop sign. I asked her if she knew the actual distance and she said no, but she though it was about 150 feet. I told he I did not know either but I bet Google had an opinion on the matter....and looked it up right then and it is 35 feet in Georgia and in our County. I then took my tape measure out of my pocket...I had just gotten home from the saw mill....and measured 35 feet which was 30 from his car. She then said it was fine this time but to keep it further from the stop sign in the future to which I of course replied it will be fine until the state or the county changes the law. She then started in on a public safety speech which I stopped immediately by telling her she was being more of a threat to public safety because HER squad car was parked in the middle of the road with the door open and no hazard lights on. I then asked he if she intended to inform who ever complained that falsely reporting a crime is indeed illegal and she said no, of course, and I told her it was not out of character for cops to not enforce actual laws while pretending to enforce HOA rules. She left. I harbor no delusions, I am sure she would do it again in the same situation because she is a cop and as an agent of the state has been lead to believe she is infallible. I am certain she won't do it at our house again though because I now have a sign at 35 feet that cites the statute and the legality of parking before that sign. The HOA has taken me to task over the sign but has said since it wasn't against any rules it was fine....and of course I had to point out to them thats why its there to start with, because I knew it wasnt against their rules. Respect and being polite are a 2 way street.

Bruh. Police get sued every day for stuff like this. For starters, any lawyer will tell you that “anyone can be sued for anything.” Second, there are tons of lawsuits involving police letting people go who then subsequently kill themselves or someone else and it falls back on the cops. Letting DUI drivers go being a prime example.

Lawyers won't tell you that you can sue anyone for anything at anytime. First off they have to be sure they will get paid....if they don't see a way for them to get paid they won't even begin to talk to you. If, however, they see a way that they will get paid they will then move on to how much THEY will likely collect....if it is not worth their effort again, no suit for you. Finally IF they see a way THEY can get paid and IF they see a way that it will be worth THEIR effort, they may actually file suit on your behalf....that is if you have actually been damaged and if you actually have standing. The old story about "suing anyone for anything anytime" is simply an urban legend. You can't sue anyone anytime for anything.
Police and police departments are rarely sued, and even rarer successfully sued, when they fail to take action that would have prevented an accident. There is no requirement that the police ensure ANYONE's safety who is not in their care...and the general public is not in there care. If the police sees someone with a ladder leaned up against a power pole, private property belonging to the power company, and asks that person what the frick they are doing and the person says they are working on the power line the police have no duty to verifiy that the person is an employee or contractor authorized to work on power lines, that one or any power line. If, in their discretion, the cop decides nothing untoward is going on and leaves and the person climbs the ladder, grabs a phase conductor and is grounded and kills themselves, the officer nor their employer has ANY liability. None. Because they have no duty to protect anything other than the general safety of the general public, not individuals. If they stop someone for speeding and lets that speeder off do you seriously think if that speeder proceeds to speed again and kills someone or themselves the police are liable in any manner? Of course they aren't.
As far as DUI goes there are RARE instances where the police have stopped someone, determined that they were impaired, and then, for whatever reason, allows them to drive off again and get into an accident and the police were successfully sued. This is rare because IT ALMOST NEVER HAPPENS. In what bizarro world are the police doing this regularly? It has happened, it is extremely rare. It is far more common for the police to do this and "follow" the drunk driver to a safe location, the driver gets in an accident, and the cops are, again, liable because they failed to protect the general public, not the individual. It is also rare but has occurred that the police would arrest someone for DUI, booked them, held them a few hours, released them and that person proceeds to get into an accident and the police have been sued for that, successfully, but again it is almost unheard of. In all instances they were sued because they failed to protect the public interest, not that of the individual. There are not tons of lawsuits as you describe because they are rare and lawsuits, even very lengthy ones, don't weigh a helluva lot. It is almost unheard of and succesful suits against the police or their employer for this type of thing is very rare. Certainly not to the point that the police worry about it at all. Like most people they will claim otherwise and use the "sue anyone anytime for anything" myth to justify their actions but in reality neither is remotely true....

for some reason I don't see it playing out like this. I see mom/dad defending their "baby" and pandering completely to him without a hint of discipline. Problem not solved and will repeat itself.
Maybe I'm just pessimistic.

Kids on electric bikes pisses me off. Yeah, I'm a boomer shouting at the clouds, but the best exercise we got as kids were riding our bikes everywhere we went. The other was that as soon as we got out of school, we were playing touch football, baseball, basketball, not video games.
In the afternoon, if you drove down a neighborhood street, there were kids outside playing something. Yeah, the girls and some geek was inside watching Bandstand, but regular kids were calorie burning machine. We were all skinny because we didn't want to take time to eat.
I can't remember the last time I saw kids out playing in the street or a vacant lot. No parents, not organized, just fun.
