I mean I think the people are jack asses, but in that same breath most of them were in rent a trucks and the city could have easily put more of a warning up than a yellow sign on something that has caused that many accidents. It takes one person getting killed and then everyone wants to know how it got this far. They make alarms and other types of warnings that I through my travels all the time.

More like lazy drivers. The bridge is very clearly marked

That is no excuse. I know it is the drivers responsibility to know but it is apparent that they don't. That is when the city intervenes and makes a more clear warning. A sign is not enough especially with a lot of these people in rented moving vans that already are probably nervous and have that awkward I don't really know where I am feeling.

The Bossier City Red River bridge on US 79 is only about 11 feet in the right lane. Been awhile since I've been up that way, but I think that's correct.

I have a book that has all the low clearance under passes listed by state, city, highway/street, and what the actual measurement is. Semi drivers are supposed to check their route for any low clearance underpasses. But, some nimrods don't, and they also can't read signs.

I rented a 15 passenger van once and smacked the big yellow hight bar in the hard rock parking garage in Biloxi once. Thing bounced all the way down the roof before I could stop the van. When I got out to check it I saw the roof had big rusty scratches and dents from someone else doing it before me.

the city can't do anything with the bridge itself, the only thing they could do is back way off and put up more signs. If the bridge is a railroad crossing then it is railroad right of way and they are really hard to deal with. And I dare anyone to try to sue the railroad, they will just laugh at you and probably have you killed.

A couple weeks ago, on black Friday to be exact, I was on my way to my mother in laws in Southdowns off of Stanford and I passed by one of those multi level car hauler 18 wheelers that was stuck under the train overpass on Acadian, right next to coyote blues. The car on the top, front, was all crumpled to shite. It was pretty funny to see.

That overhead sign at the intersection appears to have warning lights that are triggered by a height sensor that is sufficently far back to allow the idiots to turn on that side street. What do you think they should put in, a friggn barrier that comes out of the pavement?

The guy who keeps the recording going has a website 11foot8.com

This is from it:

quote:

The city of Durham has installed “low clearance” signs on each of the 3 blocks leading up to the trestle (Gregson is a one-way road). There is an “overheight when flashing” sign with flashing lights that are triggered by vehicles that are too tall. Several blocks ahead of the trestle the speed limit is 25 MPH. The folks from the city planning department said that they made an effort to prevent accidents.

I already hate renting those Penske trucks. I couldn't imagine having to call up Hertz if I were to hit that bridge.

A little less air in the tires and some of them would have cleared it
