Darth didn't read the Reddit article. It is obvious if you read his responses through this thread.

I was about to post that he didn't read the Reddit article when I saw your post.

So no the kid didn't know.

Had you read that before, you wouldn't have asked.

I assumed nothing. I only possessed the ability to read words.

I read that part and understood it. The mother did nothing. But that still doesn’t answer the question of did the kid know. It’s quite possible kid #1 told him about it.

Just lol at you making assumptions after trying and failing to call me out for making assumptions.

Asking a question is not making an assumption. If I had said, “kid 2 had to know because I bet kid 1 told him”, that would be an assumption.

But I didn’t say that. I said it was possible he may have told him. And the only reason I wondered if kid 2 knew about the condition is unless he did know I don’t see how you could charge him with assault to begin with. Which that point is moot now because common sense won out when the DA dropped the charge.

You’re the one assuming because you assume his mom is the only one who could have told him.

If that wall of text is true, then I change my original opinion.

Kid deserves to be expelled from school at the minimum and parent should definitely be held liable for injuries her son caused, although they sound trashy so I doubt there's much for the victim's family to get out of it.

I think you have to take the kid's condition out of the equation for a bit.
This game they played, Tips, wasn't dodgeball. It didn't seem like that game involved throwing the ball at anyone. The kid, Boy #2, got angry about losing the game and beamed the other kid, Boy #1, in the face from what sounds like point blank range.
That's assault by Boy #2, by any definition, that's assault. I'm not sure that it matters that Boy #1 has some medical condition. I don't necessarily think that Boy #2 was thinking about Boy #1's medical condition when he threw the ball. He was just pissed about losing and took his emotions out on Boy #1.
The fact Boy #1 has a medical condition is just meant to bring unnecessary emotion into the incident.

I hope Darth is happy he got spun up supporting the race card.

ETA - it's pretty clear that's why the DA caved.

Exactly. As I’ve been saying all along there is a way to punish this kid without charging him with assault. What I would like to know is did this kid even know the other kid had this condition? And did he understand the consequences of hitting him in the head with a ball?

I think the "scare" tactic was a good one. And hopefully it works. Let me ask you this: if in a week or so we learn that the bully did this again. What would you think about assault charges then?

I read the whole article and I have a few points to make regarding the article:

1. Do we even know if it is verified to be a legitimate source in the know?
2. This is only one side of it. As we all know, there are three sides to every story. Boy #1's side, Boy #2's side, and the truth somewhere in between.
3. I'm calling bullshite on getting a concussion and a black eye from a fricking volleyball thrown at his face. I've had just about every type of ball there is out there hit me in the face: football, basketball, volleyball, had a softball hit me dead in the nose off a bat, and had a kid pissed off at me chunk a football like the kid allegedly threw at the "victim's" face. Admittedly, this is purely anecdotal but I never got a black eye and/or concussion. People tend to embellish injury (see any car accident victim for example).
4. The author of the Reddit article says it's dumb to make the point that he shouldn't be playing like that if he has predisposed medical conditions regarding his head. No it isn't. Not in the least. If the boy truly does have a sensitive head that is prone to injury more than other boys doing the same activity, why the frick is he out there playing a rough game like that? There should be a restriction placed on his activities.
5. If my kid was boy #1 and boy #2 is being a bully online, I'm bypassing the principal and calling boy #2's parents and discussing the matter with them. frick going through some pseudo arbitration process with the school.

Looks like Bryce's mom has raised $12k of the $4k she said she needed for Bryce's legal fees on her social media fundraising campaign.

I got hit right above the eye with an 80+ MPH fastball and didn't get a concussion. My teammate took a pretty easy ground ball to the face and did.

Using personal experience to determine whether someone else did or did not get a concussion is not a good way to judge it. It's been proven some people are more susceptible to concussions than others. This is particularly true when talking about someone with a medical condition, or someone who's had previous concussions.

Seemed like a perfectly ok game to play minus someone smoking him with a volleyball at point blank range. Plus, if I want to put myself at risk that is my choice with a disability. If someone wants to hurt me because they are mentally unstable that is on them.

The charges have been dropped. I wonder if she will give all of that money back?

No, but it sounds more legit than a GoFundMe page. Grain of salt for sure though.

Do you have whatever brain stem condition this kid has?

You should read it again. The "mediation" was after the bullying carried onto school property. The mom's first step was to reach out to the other mom.

What kind of ball did he get hit with that would cause a black eye and why were they being allowed to play dodge ball with it?

Allowed to? That places the blame on someone else.

Kids should know not to injure other kids on purpose. They should be able to assess their strength, the weight, and the potential to cause harm if whatever they are throwing.

I have seen kids get mad playing basketball and him the ball at their opponent. They throw it at their hips or body. Even when furious they don’t throw it at their heads.

This kid knew he was going to hurt the other kid and did it anyway. It is his fault and his fault alone

Uh........... not in dodgeball dude.

Full strength. Aim for the head or balls.

No. It’s the kid who got hits fault for playing a game that the object is to hit someone else with a ball.

You can pass blame on the teacher for allowing a disabled kid to play a contact sport. But it absolutely isn’t the fault of the kid who did what the goal of the game is to do.
