A 10-year-old from Canton, Michigan has been charged with aggravated assault after injuring another student during a schoolyard dodgeball game.
The boy's mother, Cameishi Triplett Lindley, said that on April 30, her son Bryce was suspended from Erikkson Elementary School "for throwing a ball back at a student during recess, while playing a game called TIPS/ DODGEBALL," she wrote on Facebook.
Lindley said the ball Bryce threw allegedly resulted in the other student having a concussion. "After meeting with the Principal about why Bryce was suspended while the other students who fully participated in this game were not, the Principal disclosed that the injured student has a pre-existing condition," Lindley wrote.
You’d think this would be an Onion link, but it’s not

I’m not sure I understand what you mean. Are you saying she made this all up and the child hasn’t been charged with anything?

He may have yelled "aim for the brain stem" right before throwing.

I remember playing dodge ball as a child in PE class. We always aimed for the head and always threw as hard as we could.

Now, because the boy being punished is black and the boy who was injured is white, some critics are calling the incident racist

A 2018 report by the watchdog Government Accountability Group found that black students in grades K-12 are far more likely to be disciplined at school — whether through suspension or referral to law enforcement — than kids of other races.

It really is. There is no such thing as common sense anymore anywhere. It's quite sad.

Yeah, this should be on the school/mom of the child for allowing the child to play contact sports if his condition is that dangerous.
Did she disclose this information with the school prior to this?
In no way is this the fault of the child, and I can only hope that these charges will be dropped.

Call me crazy, but as a parent myself, I’d be more pissed off at the teacher who let my kid play dodgeball with this condition than a 10 year old kid who hit him in the head with a ball. Maybe I’m just taking crazy pills though.

I didn't know this before making my initial judgement. We may need to slow down and consider all factors.

It looks more absurd when you only quote part of the story.
It's still absurd to charge a 10 year old, but it's absurd for you to act like this was just a random normal incident in a normal dodgeball game.
Punish this kid at school and at home, but pressing charges is ridiculous. And the kid with that condition shouldn't be playing a game where it's common to get hit in the head.

She was told the student had chronic brain stem infliction.
quote:
According to a police report filled after the incident, Bryce intentionally threw the ball at the boy's face.
"He sustained facial issue damage to his face. He had a black eye and a bruised nose," a parent at the school told local station WXYZ-TV.
The mother of the boy who was hit with the ball told WXYZ-TV she sought legal action because this was not the first time her son has been targeted. She said she reported a prior incident to the school in in mid-April.
"My son was hit twice in the face with a ball previously due to this. The child apologized to my son and my son said 'Mom, it's OK, we're still going to be friends,'" the mother, who remained anonymous, told the station. However, the incident on April 29th was the final straw, she said. She was worried for her child's safety.
