I'm sure once you're allowed to declare bankruptcy with them, that's exactly what will happen dude

The jobs listed in LA when you type in "biology" on indeed bring up jobs that are either very low paying

What do you consider low pay? I work with many young fresh out of college biology majors (most pursuing higher degrees)and they make around 35,000 to 40,000 with state job cushy schedule and benefits.. I mean its not awesome pay but for a 23 year old with no experience it beats waiting tables or selling mattresses

Perfect solution is don't go to college. Waste of money and time for worthless degree.

Look at what everyone else is doing, and do the opposite.

35k isn't great, but if you have a reasonable expectation for advancement, it isn't a terrible place to be as a graduate. For whatever reason, a lot of people think that they're just going to get over 70k right after college, which just isn't reasonable at all sans the right program or connections.

Agree to disagree
35k would be a pretty tough pill to swallow for a college grad IMO

35k wouldn't be bad without student loan debt.

Make them dischargeable in bankruptcy. Would fix the whole problem of sleazy lenders, too many shitty degrees, and runaway spending by universities.

So remove the responsibility complexity off the borrower and put it on the taxpayer? The loans are backed by the govt so i guess it's on us anyway. The issue is the government's role.

The institution where the student studies needs to be the holder of the debt. e.g. A student borrows 100k to get a degree in women's studies from brown. Brown loans them the money.

It's the only fix.
