? About Sending Public School Students Home With District Owned Tech

I'm seeing that districts all over the country are coming up with potential plans for sending kids home due to the Beer19.
Is this something that we, as taxpayers, should voice logic AGAINST. There is a 100% chance that the majority of district owned devices will NEVER back it back to campus. This would be a massive LOSS of taxpayer spending in education...

My kids' schools have Chromebooks they got via a grant from Google, so no taxpayer money was spent on them. Taxpayer money is used to maintain them I guess, but we're talking fractions of a cent here.

what tech? they just access the internet with what they have. My kids were already doing stuff through google crap on a day "off".

Well I'm told Google and other large corporations don't pay taxes. So in a way the taxpayers are propping them up so we did pay for those chromebooks.

Pretty sure our chromebooks came from a grant as well but in order for our daughter to be able to take it home we had to pay $35 for insurance. Otherwise it stays at school.
Not sure how they will handle those who didn't pay if they close for two weeks though.

Found this on the school district website about issued tech:
quote:
Failure to return the personal mobile computing device to the issuing school before departure from the district may result in criminal charges brought against the student/parent/guardian and/or the person in possession of the personal mobile computing device.

not ALL of them get to take them home. in MANY districts, if you don't pay the "Tech Fee" you don't get home privileges. But, with these uncertain times, there's no telling what our traditionally extremely well educated & experienced public school leaders will decide to do with their abundance of foresight & critical problem solving skills...

As someone who worked in public school
All district tech (DISD at least) has a scanned in barcode on it. Before it goes home it is scanned out, if that piece of equipment doesn’t get returned they know exactly who took it out of school

We have been doing this for years. Its called one to one.. every single student, from 7th grade to 12th is given a chromebook at the beginning of the year, and we take them back up at the end of the year. Out of all those kids, its usually maybe 3 at the most who dont show at the end of the year. This is nothing new
