Lattimore could be on the roster in 2024 with a 13 million cap hit…. but to keep him on the roster for 2025…. You would need to redo his contract to spread out the 31 million over FUTURE years.

No secret …. that spreading money over future years has gotten the Saints in the hole over the whole Loomis-Payton regime.

So it seems that Lattimore would only be with the Saints for 1 year at best.

Do we trade him now to get a draft pick while we can ?? Before he leaves and we get nothing ??

Or you just pay him what a top 5 corner gets paid… 31 million for 2025 aint crazy if you can tap it into a new contract with guaranteed money.

Will cost 20M to cut him. That's what I think will happen (after June 1) but let's not pretend that we solve anything by keeping him this year.

Is there a difference in the cap hit if we trade him in 2024 vs just let him walk with no compensation ??

Player leaving with no compensation chaps

Quite a few non-QBs with a cap hit in that ballpark

I'm more interested in what Lattimore staying with the Saints (If he isn't traded before the start of the reg season) means for Adebo who is due for a 2nd contract this summer. and to a lesser extend Taylor. (Who could be a more attractive trade piece to some teams)

I still think Latt is a top tier CB but getting older.

His Cap hit is
2025 - $31.4M @29ysr old
2026 - $28.5M

Dead Cap years
2027 - $5.4M
2028 - $2.7M

He has some guaranteed money coming in '24. So if they cut him at any time before he receives that money, that will need to be added to his deferred bonus funds. Also, if traded, teams can get creative with some of those funds due. Don't recall the details, but that's what happened when the Saints traded for the CB from Houston several years ago. Saints had to bump up the draft pick to get Houston to rework the deal so Houston could take on more of the cap hit.

Yet if they trade him now, without any further contract shenanigans:
2024 cap hit drops from $14.6M to $10.6M in dead cap
2025 dead cap of $20.6M then off of the books for 2026 - 2028

Traded after 2024 season
Pre 6/01 trade. 2025 cap hit of $20.6M then off of the books for 2026 - 2028
Post 6/01 designation. $10.6M cap hit in 2025; $10M cap hit in 2026, off the books for 2027 - 2028

No way that number stays.

He would have to agree to a new deal. If he wants another 4 or 5 yr deal with top corner money I'm trading him.

Should've said can't pay a corner 31 mil.

And the 31 mil is deceiving. The number got inflated.

Taylor is more attractive than lattimore or adebo? What?

I feel like some people on here overrate taylor. He has a chance to be a good outside corner but no team would take him over the other 2.

Have a feeling you will only be able to say that for another 1-2 years. Jaire's average salary number is now $21M a year which is a few million lower than the top WR a few years ago. Don't recall who the top WR was last year, but Davante signed for $28M a year after the 2021 season.

If you look at just 2025, Lattimore's $31.4M cap hit is "only" $5M more than the 2nd highest for Ramsey. His 2026 figure is the 2nd highest and is $2M less than Denzel Ward's.

If Saints don't deal Latt and wait until after 2026 to address the future, I have a feeling we'll be paying $30M+ a year to extend him. Current deal was $19.4M a year

I hope we find a way to get rid of him.

I heard him in a press conference on the radio the other day, and he seemed totally disinterested and not excited to be a part of this team at all moving forward.

His interviews to me have always been that way. I think that’s just kinda his personality.

You let him play his last year here and he leaves for nothing because you won’t get much in return in trade anyway. It sucks but it’s true.

You can’t be serious. He’s always been shy of the microphone but he makes plays every time he’s on the field. He consistently shuts down the number 1 options in other teams and rarely ever gets burned. We’d be lucky to have him without having to break the bank if we can spread out that cap hit. There’s no way we can be a successful team if we can’t have a few superstar players. We need more talent not less.
