I’d take Allen. You have to ride this defense until you can’t. I wouldn’t go all in on a big time coach until it’s time for a rebuild. And honestly if we promote Ireland and keep Allen he could be our guy for a long time.

I’m ok with either; keeping the continuity is key.

I’d like a real search. I actually think this is a good time to bring in someone new and not just grasp at the last remnants of the old regime.

We have assets so it’s not a full rebuild by any means and I think a new set of eyes may be the key to getting over the hump.

the melt hasnt even started, because they dont realize yet, its way more likely that Carmichael is the one in house that gets offered the HC job rather then Allen

Allen did fine against a stacked deck.
There is something to be said for continuity.
Petey is due to be in full control of an Offense.

I think Carmichael is more important than Dennis Allen and I would LOVE if there was some way to keep them and put in a head coach.

Same. Payton said he told three people all in a row, Mickey, Gayle then Allen. It’s already reported we’re interviewing DA for the job

I'm positive the hire will be Dennis Allen but he said Mickey, Gayle, then Dennis. Are you sure he wasn't talking about Lauscha?

I assumed it was DA but that’s possible. I’d have to listen again for context

Carmichael yes
Allen No

DA as head coach is back to the dark ages for the Saints.

I would be fine with it. Keep it in house.

You basically have the exact same coaching staff minus Payton going this route.

Needs to be Allen. Can promote Richard to DC to keep him too. Carmichael May still stay. If you pass on Allen then he probably leaves. He is probably at top 3 DC in the league

I definitely don't want to lose Ireland and Allen isn't a bad choice. I'm wondering how this will effect the way we approach this draft.

Some people are meant to be coordinators, Allen was very bad in his opportunity as a HC. Carmichael does not fit as a HC at all doesn't have the personality required for the position.
