What is the rush? It doesn’t help us if he retires now. For everything he’s done for the team and city he deserves as much time as possible. Also like mentioned earlier waiting till June 1st tremendously helps the saints.

Yeah, I heard one of his main considerations was announcing at a time that is convenient for “JWeezy.”

Brees wasn't the problem.

Noodle arm whipped Brady's arse twice in the regular season when Payton wasn't being a pussy.

Sean Payton is the one to blame for our loss two weeks ago.

ETA: Bring on the downvotes you fricking pussies.

The truth hurts, huh?

It helps us if it isn’t effective until June 1st.

He can lessen the Saints' cap hit if he waits until after June 1st.

Can't wait for only 5 yard passes.

Sorry to be the one to tell you but 25,000,000 dollars for one year would cause you to think carefully too. Especially when it comes to football, a game that you love and once played for free. Besides he probably won't see those kind of paydays ever again. May as well take advantage of them while they are still available.

He's trying to maximize the media coverage.

He'll retire on Super Bowl Sunday, when 110+ million eyeballs are watching coverage all day.

It's out of the old Saints playbook when they wanted to make a splash by announcing on Super Bowl Sunday that Ditka was hired as Saints HC.

Don't let Drew fool ya. He's low-key ego-maniacal and all about his brand. This is his last shot at fan worship.

It's tough for people like the OP to understand contracts and caps.

100%. It is all calculated just like his wife’s private Instagram post making it to the public to announce added injuries as a “topsy-turvy” approach to change the narrative to cause some instead of thinking he was subpar in his last game that he was instead a warrior for even lacing them up the last game (similar to Lebron’s hand injury in 2018 NBA Finals).

I am still sticking with early next week making the announcement - so he can be a media darling on radio row.
