Dude got COVID-19 and developed antibodies & immune system memory cells. He even donated his antibody-laden plasma already, which was well-publicized.

He can't get COVID-19 again. If you can't get COVID-19 again, you can't give COVID-19 to anyone. So, SP wearing a surgical mask to prevent COVID-19 spread to another is entirely unnecessary.

If SP is being forced to wear the mask by the NFL, what pseudo-science is the NFL basing this mandate on?

Considering most of the coaches at all levels of football wear crappy masks and are constantly pulling it down or wearing below nose level, I’m going to say the reason is

is being forced to wear the mask

Pretty obvious you don’t follow the NFL rules and COVID-19 protocols which have been in place since the season started. Just in case you missed it, during the week 2 Raiders loss, CSP was fined $100K and the organization was fined $250K because he was not wearing the mask properly during the game.

Objective facts don’t matter to Goodell. That idiot still has a hard on to Fuk the Saints and other coaches that publicly call him out.

It has actually been said that the immunity only last a few months after catching the virus so you can catch it again. Now is that really true? Who knows but it is all we got to go by and the nfl has to enforce the protocol accordingly

I am a physician on the North shore.
Had a guy become symptomatic in March, then tested positive. Had a negative test in May (employer made him get tested).
End of November, he developed symptoms and tested positive again.
You can get it twice.

Sean wears a mask to prevent getting re-infected, but also because of the optics of it all.

If many people have gotten it twice, that means that they survived getting it, right?

So how is this worse than a cold again?

Wrong... if you actually ready, it’s extremely rare worldwide.

There are a few reasons for that.

1) False Positives
2) You can be in early stages of infection and test negative because there's not enough virus to detect. Then later you become infectious and can test positive. That said, it is usually a matter of days
3) The optics of it

Not really the correct board to debate this but,
as a physician you should know that the accuracy of testing is so far off that the very rare cases of people getting reinfected is inaccurate at best.

The NFL is all about optics.

To the poster claiming immunity lasts only a few months. This is also inaccurate as studies have shown the antibodies reproducing in patients months after the initial infection. We do know the vaccine has shown to last at least 3 months, which is the only metric of time thus far.

There is nothing proven that says you cant catch it twice. I believe the cdc has said you are good for 3-4 months so far. That duration may grow with time, but there is no proof you cant catch it twice. And payton tested positive way longer than 3 months ago.

The research says immunity wanes after several months in some people.

San Diego Tribune
Colorado report

Some health officials are reporting reinfection in their states/counties.

Reinfection in professional cyclist

There is at least one instance of an athlete contracting it twice.

It is rare, but some people can catch it twice. I’m sure Payton is wearing it to set an example for people and to follow the rules set out by the NFL. (Kind of the same way they can only wear officially licensed clothing/merchandise on the sideline.) And to maybe protect himself and his players as well.

The real question is why does it trigger people so much what another grown man does?

Then you should know how immunity works.

Once you develop antibodies, you are immune to that strain for life (outside of acquiring an imunno-deficiency disease).

That's actually the whole basis for any vaccine: inject a weakened or dead form of a virus and your body will make memory cells/antibodies that defend against it for life. And Sean Payton actually got the LIVE version and developed antibodies for that strain and donated his antibodies. He can't get it twice.

What I can't believe is that faulty testing has actually convinced some physicians that memory cells are temporary/ephemeral. Next thing you know, they'll tell us maggots spontaneously generate from dead meat.
