He’s the next Tony Gonzales everybody said. He had like a dozen catches in college of course.
I don’t doubt he’ll contribute and. Apparently TEs are vital in today’s NFL but I think there were bigger needs

TEs take the longest to develop in the NFL. There’s outliers but most of the time they take multiple years before they reach their potential

The fact he’s playing at all as a rook is encouraging. He’s got 2 veterans that are athletic freaks ahead of him and he’s still out there getting time. It’s his 3rd game and even though I like the potential of all of our draft class this year he’s probably already showing as much or more than anyone else at this point. If you’re going to criticize him you might as well mention everyone else we picked that’s having normal 1st year progression like him

Moore wanted to run 13 personnel so he needed TEs. Johnson has proven to be a bit injury prone. So he signed Fant and drafted a TE. Delp is playing and is more of the blocking TE doing the dirty work.
Not sure if you noticed, but TEs scored all four TDs yesterday. I’d say it’s a pretty important position.

Yesterday was only his 2nd game. Think we’ll see him more down the road.

I dont think I’ve seen a more up and down player than J Johnson. Can be incredible and catastrophic all in the same quarter

He plays and he primarily is a blocker.
