We got Chris Olave. They got Jahan Dotson, Brian Robinson Jr, and Sam Howell.

I think they definitely won. This is example number one million why you don’t trade up in the draft.

Brian Robinson is a JAG, not really hard to find rbs like him in any draft

Howell I’d be surprised if he starts past this lame duck regime’s last season.

Never loved the olave move up but I don’t think pointing at that haul proves they won.

We’ll see. It looks good for them because they’re starting Robinson and Howell. But what if Howell sucks and Robinson is an average running back?

Also kudos to them if they crushed it by drafted an elite rb and legit starting qb in the third and fifth rounds. We weren’t going to draft those players.

Olave is better than Dotson. For now that’s enough to not really pass judgment on the trade for a few years at least.

Olave is the best player by far of all of the players listed to this point.

I give it 2-3 years before you can get an honest answer, though.

I think in 2-3 years, we’ll realize the saints won this trade

Washington most certainly didn't win that trade.

Yeah I think we need to look at who else could’ve been taken with those other picks in another year. Dotson definitely has all the potential in the world to rival Olave though just need to see what he can do fully healthy for a year.

I think it’s a win-win for both teams.
The Saints won because they got their guy which is better than either piece.
But if your the commanders yours glad you did it because they needed much more pieces in quantity. So they got more of what they needed out of it also.

How is this kind of thinking so wide spread among sports fans? Nobody actually operates or makes decisions like this. Can you imagine this playing out at your job? "We checked up on Greg, the other guy that was considered for your position three years ago and well.... we can confidently say you're a failure now. It doesn't really matter what you do from this point on, you'll just always be compared to Greg."

Imagine if the Saints actually thought that way. "We have a guy we really like this year, but what if we miss out on someone slightly better 3 years from now? That's too risky." Fans have the luxury of evaluating things in terms of 3, 4, 5 years because they aren't going anywhere. A coach might have 2 or 3 years tops to win or lose his job. What good is a draft pick 3 years from now if he's not even here.

So you think you can tell who “won” a trade in a single year? In a year or two from now if Dotson is playing at the same level(or better) as Olave and players have established themselves as good nfl players at or behind the spots we traded away that year it can be argued we would’ve helped the team more staying put.

What’s done is done but if we’re just fricking around on here it can be looked at or argued.

That’s all great but he’s asking who “won” the trade on a message board for shits and giggles. Nobody is saying they did a poor job.

Also you answered your original question in your own post

You're right, my assertion was misplaced. It's obviously fine for fans to speculate on things like that, the NFL benefits from it. My issue is with people retroactively cherry picking trades and signings to fit their "never change Aints" narrative, when reality we are one of the better drafting teams since Ireland came in. I guess I misinterpreted the post as a weird criticism instead of discussion.
