You put it down! I run this organization, and I'm trading Sean. If you don't like it, tough shite. My decision is made

Just so you know, 3-team trades do happen in nfl. The Sammy Watkins-Jordan Matthews-Ronald Darby trade was 3 teams. They don't happen much though

SI.com’s Conor Orr floated the idea of Payton taking a year off from football for, well, no real reason. After listing all the positives Payton’s put together in New Orleans — a strong roster with the best defense he’s ever fielded, an experienced coaching staff, a forward-thinking front office and a blank checkbook from ownership — Orr suggested Payton throw it all aside and see if he can go get traded to the Bears or Jaguars or whichever awful team drafts a quarterback highly in a year or two.

There’s no explanation for this, no genesis for the discussion, beyond speculating about the malaise that comes from sustained success in the NFL.
A great example of that is New England Patriots Super Bowl appearances — Bill Belichick has made them so routine that they’ve become boring. The league’s acronym itself has drawn barbs about meaning “Not For Long” with high roster turnover each year, so when someone sticks around for as long as Payton has outsiders start getting antsy. No active head coach has held his post longer than Payton (since 2006) except for Belichick himself (since 2000).

But let’s focus on what’s in front of us. Payton’s taken a Saints team ravaged by injuries, COVID-19 issues, a month-long hurricane evacuation, and an offseason of unprecedented salary cap challenges to a .500 record.

quote:

It just doesn’t make any sense for him to bow out at this point. It’s not like the inevitable breakup between Andy Reid and the Philadelphia Eagles, or Mike McCarthy and the Green Bay Packers. Payton’s built a Saints team that is talented and resilient and ready to compete for a long time.

He isn't going anywhere. The only trade involving Sean that would make any sense at all is for a game changer at qb. That would still present problems bc we'd still have huge issues paying an established qb like Watson or Wilson, and Wilson wouldn't wanna be here without Sean. There's no clear cut, generational qb in the draft, so even 1-1 pick doesn't make sense for Sean. I like talking about stuff like this bc the season is done, but it ain't happening

I feel the same way. His relationship with loomis will always keep him here

No way in hell CSP goes anywhere. He's going to retire in 10-15 years after coaching his final game for the Saints.

Loomis & CSP are boys. Loomis is the GM & reports to Gayle Benson, but he lets CSP run the show b/c it's also in Loomis' best interest to do so. Loomis handles all the money, & Ireland helps with evaluating talent.

I GUARANTEE that CSP is going nowhere. He is setup like a King & he knows it.

My wife runs around the same circles as Skylene and she loves it here, not saying that’s CSP deciding factor on leaving. Her and coach just bought a new home as well like a year or two ago.

All of which have not been on the top of their game for a long time

They won division 4 years in a row. Second best record over last 5 years. Many people viewed Saints as top to bottom most talented roster for like 3 or 4 straight years.

Very likely win Super Bowl if not for arguably the biggest ref frick up in sports history. Just had winning record and nearly made playoffs this year even with more shite to overcome than any team in the league.

Anything short of 3 firsts, 2 seconds, and a good player, the Saints should just hang up the phone.

There is literally nothing for which I would trade CSP. Do some people really not remember what life as a Saints fan was like before Sean Payton?

Let's see, our second greatest coach ever had some early success; albeit that was assisted by having the greatest group of linebackers in NFL history. Then later some diddlypoo and was forced to resign.

Then came Mike Ditka, who traded away the entire draft for Ricky Williams. Memorable photoshoot, forgettable football.

Next was Jim Haslett, who so loved Aaron Brooks that he was willing to lose several games a year for him. Meanwhile our backup QB went to Carolina and the super bowl.

Finally, we get to CSP, who took a 3-13 team whose city was just destroyed by the most devastating hurricane in US history; and a QB with 1 1/2 shoulders that no one else wanted, and brought them to the NFC championship game. He's won more playoff games (Nine) than the entire history of the saints before him (one). He won a super bowl, he's won the division 7 times, he's gotten us to the playoff nine times, and he has by far this highest winning percentage in the history of the franchise (.631). In fact, among coaches with at least 100 wins, Sean Payton has the 12th highest winning percentage of any coach in the history of the NFL.

Why are we even having this conversation?

Fanbases want CSP.

He's not leaving on his own and he's not getting traded. So I would not worry.

Most teams would love to have Sean
We know for damn sure that Good Ol’ Jerry Jones is still kicking himself in his nip-tucked & lipo-sucked arse for basically picking Jason Garret instead of Sean to be the next HC way back when!

Can you imagine the team trading him for a first rounder then the franchise dives back into mediocrity for a decade?
Unfortunately YES, I could absolutely imagine the Saints doing that. Why? Because, they're the Saints!

His agent. He wants something from the Saints (money, someone hires, someone gone), etc. Most of this kind of stuff comes from the agent.

Mike Tomlin supposedly was interested in the LSU and USC jobs. Of course, he denied it to the moon but too many people ran with it for it to be false. And then yesterday, it was announced the Steelers de facto GM is leaving after the draft. Not hard to see the obvious connection.

So Payton, who pretty much has control over the entire Saints football operation, wants something.

I would like to have coach Britni Spears but my organization says I can only hope for Roseanne Barr.
