Wasting draft capital.

Imagine if we held on to all our draft picks and took a starter with even half of them.

IMO it’s when Jameis tore his ACL against the Bucs.

All the shite Payton put up with in the past and maybe some self inflicted;
-bounty gate
-Rams no call
-Minn playoff loss

seems Payton was all in on Winston who was playing well. Then Winston going down with the knee broke him as he can't get a break in New Orleans.

Easy. When Dennis Allen was hired and Loomis kept spending on high dollar free agents. Pushing the cap costs years into the future. B/c he thought one of the worst coaches in history was the answer.

When Drew couldn't close the 49ers playoff game. Jan 2012 effectively closed the door on that team and his career.

What an idiotic take. Drew got us the lead in almost all of the playoff games he started at the end. Defensive could never hold it at the end on final drives.

9ers debacle with Alex smith
Minny miracle
The Kyle Rudolph push off td at the end
Defense couldn’t stop anything against Seattle that entire day.
Nola no call.

Defense couldn’t stop the opposing team from scoring on their last drive once….

The Jared Cook fumble against Tampa following the No Call against the Rams following the Minneapolis Miracle.

We just went all in with this core of players. It didn't work out and now we're paying for it.

the no-call

it began a series of desperate moves to try and redeem that injustice

doubling and tripling down on the roster to try and get Drew 1 more when sadly the window had already closed

then Payton left and we made the wrong hire and it was all downhill from there

but if that PI is called correctly, then we win a championship and Drew rides off into the sunset and everything is different now

I would say the real problem is that the Saints fought the decline too hard. After Brees, it was fine to retool with Winston and go about seeking another playoff run and the team was on pace to do just that until Winston went down. But after that, the mistakes began to cascade. I don't blame Carr nearly as much as some do--he is the last QB to win a game here--but it was not smart to invest heavily in a middling NFL starter as the rest of the roster aged and the misses on draft picks, as well as dead money, began to pile up. If we take our medicine around 2022 or so, the cap situation gets fixed sooner and the chances of having drafted the next QB already go up. Instead, we deal with it now.

The day the old man croaked. Lauscha and Loomis knew how bad Gayle is and how dependent she is on them.

Drew Brees’ arm gave out on him in November 2018. It’s one of the factors that caused us to lose to the Rams in the playoffs. His arm was already dead in 2019 and 2020. That’s why it’s not surprising that we lost in the playoffs those years as well.

Throughout all of that, Sean Payton and company should have had a plan to find Drew’s replacement. They did not have a plan, and so we were completely screwed after Drew retired and Sean left.

When Loomis was put in charge of drafting and personnel positions. The other possibility is when Tom Benson passed away.

No one knows for sure when this was, but it was the moment Sean Payton first considered leaving.
