What if NO is planning on recouping '23 first round pick?

Maybe Mickey already knows he's going to get that first round pick back when he trades Sean's rights?

It’s not a maybe he knows. I honestly thought Sean would retire as a Saint. Something went wrong with someone this past season.

Saw this theory yesterday. I don't buy it, but who knows. Can't make decisions based on what someone no longer part of your organization may or may not do.

I also thought that they are in a good spot to trade down (laughable it’s the saints) and can trade you mid to high 20s and get next years First back.

The Rams don’t have a first round pick for the next 20 years and just won the Super Bowl. IMO We still have a window of opportunity here. I’m not worried about a 1st rounder next season at this moment.

This is as vapid of an argument as the "the 3rd rounder is a compensatory pick" one. How we acquire the assets is irrelevant.
The question is if they are assets and what we got in exchange for them if we move them.

Eh it's the modern NFL. You have just as good a chance of building a superbowl team through free agency (Rams, Bucs) as you do through the draft (Kansas City, Seahawks in the Wilson early years) or like NE doing both.

You have a different definition of "free agency" than I do.
Bucs did get Brady, but that's an extreme outlier event. Most of that team was built through the draft.
What major FAs have the Rams signed outside of ancient Whitworth? Their whole run is built around drafting possibly the GOAT defensive player in NFL history.

I choose to view this is Sean's final gift to Saints fans--leave early, when he wanted to, but be gifted draft capital when the Cowboys swoop in and sign him up.
I know that doesn't make any sense for Sean, but I'm not rational about Sean leaving.

I think he at least thinks he will get SOMETHING In return even if it isn’t a first rounder so that maybe you’re just moving that pick up a year and not really losing a ton.

They got Ramsey and Miller for taking on salary trades. They signed OBJ when he was released. Signed Weddle off the street.

You can top a roster off through free agency but the bucs built that team through the draft.

Are you kidding? Robert woods, Whit, Stafford, Von Miller, Jalen Ramsey, OBJ, literally the majority of their team not named Cooper Kupp or Cam Akers were free agents/ trades

They traded for Ramsey and then gave him the big deal. Cost them 2, 1sts.
They did a standard old-veteran trade for Miller and didn't have to pay him much. That trade had nothing to do with salary.

So you have a starting C and Interior DL as legit FAs. Not exactly "building". I never said not to rely on any FAs. The Bucs just had extreme luck to get the opportunity to get Brady after drafting well to get him a loaded roster. The real backbone of that team was drafted.
Evans, Godwin, Marpett, Wirfs, Vea, White, David, Smith, Winfield, both starting CBs, Howard, Cappa, Whitehead, etc.
I never aid you don't sign any FAs, but you have to build through the draft.

And, again, they sold out on future draft capital to build around their drafted, once in a lifetime, superstar. The entire reason they sold out their future was b/c of their drafting.
