Everyone knew this was going to be a multi year rebuild. We do have some key players in place that will keep is in most games. But one injury is also going to highlight deficiencies in the depth and team. The success they have had has been quicker than we thought was going to happen getting everyone to believe the rebuild was over and now in to compete stage. Everyone acting like we just got set back before Moore took over is delusional. The saints are still in the early stage of rebuilding from the Dennis Allen era.

It’s hard not to be frustrated with getting physically embarrassed on national tv by a time we thought three weeks ago we were better than.

But if you take a step back the big push was always next year and 2028 when we should have two full off seasons of cap space to build around a cheap qb. The question of whether Moore and loomis are the guys to take advantage of that situation is a very valid one

I'm still a fan but no way an NFL team should be putting up that kind of performance at home against the Falcons. They may have good players, but they are at best an above average team. That would have been embarrassing even against the Chiefs, all around pathetic performance on defense, no excuse for that. Same for offensive line. Falcons didn't have their LT and we couldn't do shite against them. There is 0 excuse for last night, none.

Problem is Loomis is the one laying the bricks

The defense is mainly what I’m talking about. When you have Werner and Elliss out, they knew to take advantage of that on the ground. Especially when Elliss is the on field play caller wearing the green dot.

That’s is exactly where you see issues in depth.

Werner played fwiw. Maybe he wasn’t at 100% but he played.

They’ve had two drafts and have spent the 7th and 5th most in free agency over the last two offseasons. You have a QB. The division is terrible

We are 3-7 at home over the last two seasons. 4-14 if you go back three seasons. This is an embarrassing product

Werner played, our secondary was fully healthy. I don't care if we were starting our preseason D with players who got cut, I'd expect better. Falcons had their starting LT out. It was just a pathetic performance. I think Chase Young gave effort, but he's a pass rusher, they didn't have to pass. You can't be that bad against the run, that was just awful. Let Penix beat you (he would have) but still, put 8 in the box and stop the damn run (we still wouldn't have stopped it). It was mostly players not giving a shite.

ETA: Absolutely embarrassing, frick those players

This.

The coach can be changed, but everything else above him is stagnant with nor foreseeable means to change. Gayle is a reluctant owner. She was essentially burdened with the team through inheritance. As such, she's totally hands off, which essentially means Loomis is not just the GM, but a de facto owner. He's not replacing himself, so the franchise is stuck.

I think Moore at least gets through year 3, so any talk about replacement is just fan discussion at the moment. But assuming things don't get significantly better, does anyone have any confidence in Loomis selecting a new HC? If Moore fails that means he will have miserably missed on the only two HC hires of his tenure. For many GMs they only get one "miss". But as stated above, Loomis isn't any GM.

Good thing we have Mickey Loomis and Kellen Moore to navigate this multi year rebuild.

Do you think they know that you have to actually build and not tear apart?

The question is whether the coaching issues are purely on the coach or whether some or even most of it can be attributed to personnel management, meaning Loomis and the front office.

I honestly don't know, but if we look at this without the fog of last night's beatdown, I find it hard to think the issue resides mostly with this set of coaches, while I had come to the conclusion that was the case with the previous staff. We shall see.

Honestly, you could make a dart board of "things that are a problem for an nfl team" and throw that dart anywhere you like and it would probably fit for the Saints.

Can't protect the QB
Can't run the ball
Can't cover in the secondary
Can't stop the run
Don't draft particularly well with any consistency
Can't stay healthy
HC and FO that most have little to no confidence in
