re: We just traded a top tier player for less than compensatory value if lost in FA

Cant afford to do that if he is pissed off at the coaches and not buying in. Distractions are costly and the defense will be fine without him.

Fine but don’t send him to the Eagles. Geeeez. Terrible.

Loomis is a clown. Has been for years. Now that we no longer have an elite head coach, the wheels are going to fly off quickly.

and then receiving a higher comp pick next year when he walks.
Which could very easily not happen

shouldn't give into a little malcontent fricking crybaby drama. He was our asset and he can suck titts for a year and ball out for his next deal.

Yeah I don't want that attitude around the locker room or team.

Does cutting Taysom at some point save a boatload of $$?
Hell no. His cap hit next year is 13.9M with a dead cap hit of 23.7M
We will have to restructure, which means converting his 9.9M base into signing bonus (and likely adding void years) and making his dead cap even more insane down the road.
Taysom Hil may go down as one of the worst series of contracts in NFL history.

Dude I was the a-hole that first acknowledged and argued this probability. Suck my dick. Walking away w a 5th and chips is terrible value. This leaked story is bullshite for the most part.

Maybe the Saints are finally realizing that they’re not winning anything with Winston and making a push with him as QB despite the roster is futile.
How the frick did you come up with this? Jameis and the offense looked great on his drive. Dalton looked like a great backup. The offense with those guys looked good and efficient, and we still haven’t seen Thomas yet.

Top tier is used a little loosely. Good nickle yes, gave us an attitude on defense yes. But don't you think if he was safety material the Saints would have promoted him instead of signing Maye or Mathieu. Time will tell if he was a product of the players around him or if he has the natural ability to be good anywhere

I still struggle to believe there wasnt a buyer out there willing to part with more than this for a player of his caliber. Remember, it wasnt just CJGJ for a 5 and 6... It was CJGJ and a 7th.
We got bent over, unless his contract demands were so unpalatable to the entire NFL which I can certainly see being a possibility.

All this uproar….because we got a 5th and 6th instead of a 4th(which we’ll probably package for a 4th anyway)
No one was giving any better compensation for a pretty good nickel safety that became a complete malcontent because he couldn’t get top safety money. You really think the front office was like “yeah, I know you’re offering a 3rd…..but we’d rather a 5th”?
The fact is….he was causing big problems…. and our secondary is as deep as it’s ever been.

We got barely more value than cutting him.

There is no way what we received yesterday is more valuable than what we'd have been given credit for in our compensatory pick calculations.

His contract demands must have scared off most of the potential suitors.
This sucks.
This sucks.

Sure the credit the team would have received would have been a 2024 3rd compensatory pick; however, when you consider how active/aggressive the Saints are in free agency, what is that credit really worth? Isn't it expected the Saints will lose their 2023 3rd compensatory credit for Armstead going to the Dolphins because they signed Dalton?
