Thanks. It’s still a shitshow to dig out of.

Bruh, what? This is the best-case scenario. We are only 47 Mill above the Cap now. Carr is 30 million if we Trade/Cut post June 1st. Taysom is another 10 million Trade/Cut post June 1st.

How many more names at the top of that list are actual big-time contributors that we are wasting money on? Cam's probably going to rework his contract since he says he "never wants to leave the Saints."

And I'll be honest. If we want to win games this year, you keep Carr. But if you want to start the rebuild you play Rattler. No offense to Rattler, I actually think he did well given he had janitors playing offensive line and WR, but we need the rookie QB contract to sign other players.

This means borrowing money from 2026 and beyond to get compliant this year. It’s not good for a rapidly declining player. Lose the emotional attachment it’s a business.

Unless Carr, Badger, Hill, Cam, DeMario etc start taking pay cuts not restructuring it will be 2028 or beyond (if we draft well) that we can expect to compete for the South.

I agree. The emotional attachment needs to stop. These players were ready to leave the team if they didnt get their contract. We are TOO old and have too much money tied up in old players. I love Taysom but 34 yo with 2 bad knees and second ACL injury on one. Gotta go. Cam Jordan restructure convert contract to bonus, Take pay cut or you gotta go. Ram convert to bonus and retire post Jun 1st. Demario Davis is 36 yo. Either restructure or trade. Last get rid of Carr. He is a liability, he is old and he isnt worth the money we are paying him. Trade him or cut him but get rid of him and give the Rattle a real shot. Go sign Justin Fields for a 1 year deal and see if he can become a poor mans Jalen Hurts. He looked pretty good in limited work in Pittsburgh.

Congratulations, they are now only $45,579,537 over the cap until they are able to recognize the post 6/01 savings. They need to be complaint by 3/12, post 6/01 cap cuts don't hep here

Saints have a new coach. Let's have a new roster of young players too.

When does Loomis start the restructures and who is the first player he addresses?

Mathieu and Young aren't really that important.

My guess is that they’ll do whatever they’re gonna do with Carr first, whether it’s a cut or a restructure. That basically is the pivot point for whatever else they have to do. If they cut him, we know they then will have to do more of the other vets restructures (maybe some extensions/pay cuts as well). If they restructure him, they’ll probably be far more selective and only do guys they see on the team beyond the next year.

With an extra 10ish mil than anticipated, playing with the calculator, it allows us to get under the cap without even touching carr

Cutting or trading him post June 1 is a likely option now

carr will be restructured regardless of whether we cut him post june 1st or trade him.

can restructure carr, mccoy, ruiz, werner and shaheed to be cap compliant march 12th.

the restructures on mccoy, ruiz, werner and shaheed aren't terrible.

after june 1st we can cut cam, taysom, shepherd, ram, saunders, jamal williams and ced wilson jr.

would like to see if we can trade carr as a post june 1 designation. he will be restructured either way. i believe he'll be cut next year even if we keep him this year, so best to go ahead and get rid of him. will save us around 32mil next year as his cap after restructure is close to 70mil for 2026.

that puts us at 38+mil under the cap for 2025 and 51mil+ under the cap for 2026. 83+mil if we get rid of carr as a post june 1 designation this year or cut him next year. obviously that money will be spent on draft/re-signings and free agency, but we do have light at the end of the tunnel.

it's a big mess, but we can dig out of it. let's see what we have with rattler and move forward.

Incorrect. If Carr is restructured, he cannot be cut (or traded) without a huge cap negative. The restructure is only an option if he is being retained.

This is what makes it impossible to cut Carr after 3/12
quote:

2025 Roster Bonus: $10M (fully guarantees 3/15/2024, paid the 5th league day of 2025 injury guaranteed at signing)
$30M 2025 salary fully guarantees the 3rd league day of 2025 (injury guaranteed at signing)

His $10M roster bonus is already due since he survived last year's cut. But, if he's still on the roster on 3/15, his full $30M is now guaranteed. So now you are looking at $80M in dead money over 2025 & 2026, regardless of how his deal gets restructured. And because of how Loomis has the cap structured, Carr has all of the leverage year and will not give up that guaranteed money (nor should he). Only possible solution is a trade, but he also holds the no trade clause.

They either need to bite the bullet now and cut him as a designated post 6/01 cut, then find a way to clear the other ~$45M to get under the cap by 3/12. The on 6/28 you clear the extra $28M??? and you sign your draft picks then and get involved in the secondary FA market. Or you roll with him for 2025 and set-up the roster to cut him 1 year from now.
