On his podcast, said his name isn’t being floated for HC openings.

Mentioned Ryan Nielsen and Kris Richard as obvious in house replacements if DA does leave.

Also mentioned Mike Zimmer would be a candidate. Said his number 1 choice would be Brian Flores, if he’s not a HC elsewhere.

It's not a surprise really. Allen whiffed when he got his HC shot and he's a defensive mind in a time where everyone wants offense.

He plays his cards right and he's possibly the Saints head coach in waiting.

I don’t think his raiders stint is held against him much honestly. The raiders were a shite organization at that time and we see retreads all the time.

His QBs in Oakland were:
Left for dead Carson Palmer for 1 season
Terrelle Pryor
Matt McGloin
Matt Flynn
Rookie Derek Carr for 4 games

Well we should be crossing our fingers hoping to retain both DA and Ireland

Maybe we can just give him a raise and hope he stays.

I think a lot of franchises still value defensive minds as head coaches. A lot of the most successful coaches in the nfl are defensive minds. Belichick and Vrabel are two that immediately come to mind.

It’s weird that he hasn’t garnered more interest but it’s fine with me.

As far as the saints head coach in waiting goes, he may be waiting 20 years so I highly doubt that’s in his plans.

It has to be held against him, why else would he not be getting calls?

I don't think Flores will be without HC employment long.

Miami was crazy for cutting him loose.

Not Saints' related, but I had to share...

Shows how much of a joke the Pro Bowl is

Look at the openings

Jags (Lawrence)
Bears (fields)
Dolphins (tua)

Figure they may want an offensive centric mind around those guys

Broncos, Vikings, Dolphins also just parted ways with defensive coaches and may not want to dip into that well again

Allen was also 40 when he got that Raiders gig. He never had a shot as he inherited the Jamarcus/Tom Cable leftover mess

This is the lead up to the most shocking development in football history.

You don't let Flores walk if you don't already have someone else in line.

Tua...Waddle...sometimes coaching styles and personalities evolve

Dennis Allen isn't going to be a DC for the next 10 years waiting for Sean to retire.

The majority of NFL owners are not very smart when it comes to running a team. We also have no idea if DA even wants to run a team right now. Not every good coordinator is a good HC and not everyone has the ego to want to become one. Sometimes it pays to know your limitations. Pete Carmichael comes to mind.

Agreed. I really don't think he wants to leave. He has a great setup.

He doesn't have to worry about offense, special teams, or talent evaluation. CSP & the FO take care of that, & he just has to worry about coaching his defense...which he's very good at.

CSP (with the help of Ireland) gives Allen his defense & gives him free reign to coach them however he wants. The reason CSP does this is b/c CSP can't do it himself.

CSP is a GREAT head coach, but he's smart enough to know that he needs both Allen & Ireland. He's also smart enough to let both of them know that they are wanted & needed.

I wouldn't worry too much about Allen or Ireland

Was listening to a pod last night (I think from the Athletic) and they were discussing how defensive guys have a recent great track record of picking good offensive minds. Their focus was Vrabel, but you can also put guys like McDermott, and Staley in that mix.

Yeah I think the randomness of the opportunities unfolded in a way where Allen isn't likely to go this offseason.

I always thought he was underrated there and was super pumped to get him here.

I hope he understands he needs a good player personnel guy.

SP is terrible at drafting and signing FAs on his own.

He's not turning down interviews, dude. He's not even getting interviews. You think he'll leave for the CFL or something?

He's always been respectable at offensive talent evaluation, but his defensive evaluation is rather laughable.

That's to be expected though. I bet the last time CSP actually played defense was flag football or grade school tackle football, & that was just b/c they didn't have anyone better.

CSP is & always was a QB. Leader of the offense, & the team in general. A good leader knows what he needs help with.

He would need a HC offer. I wondered all along if there would actually be interest. Hoping there isn’t.
