Per his twitter:

A poster asked a question: In your opinion, what’s the percentage Sean Payton is coming back to coach the Saints?

Incredibly low. He's getting traded or working for FOX in 2023.

Another question: Did the relationship sour you think? or is this more of a seeking new adventures type thing?

No, it's fine. But he quit his job. His job moved on because he no longer wanted to be part of the organization and he no longer wanted to coach the Saints. You can't just turn that switch off and on.

Someone tell Nick he left the Saints and came back with his tail tucked between his arse crack.

Totally different situation. Nick took a promotion from local news paper to national sports outlet.

Then, he took another step to actually become owner of a startup and cover the team as an owner/operator of his own Company.

He wasn't making lateral moves

When did he work for the Saints exactly?

Exactly. He left the area media market for a much larger market. Then he came back and started his own company.

does it seem like underhill defends the organization's moves a lot to anyone else?

He does. Doesn’t wanna risk losing any access since he’s his own company now I’d guess

Does this seem to go along with what Duncan was saying too? Seems like Saints aren’t interested in him coming back.

He toes the line for sure.

Almost all the local media does. I get it but there's a difference between being professional and doing your actual job.

Say Payton wanted to come back, but refused to sign a new deal. He wants to come back for two years and then will leave with no compensation coming to the Saints.

If that's the case, then I also would turn him down.

Sure you can. Happens all the time, people quit and go back.

No, what he’s saying is the organization doesn’t just turn the switch on and off. He left, they moved on.

How are they to know he won’t decide two years later he doesn’t want to coach the Saints again? He pulled this “I’m not sure I want to coach here anymore” bullshite at least three times: after 2015 season, after 2018 season (trade with Cowboys until Saints backed out because of Anthony Davis stuff) and after 2021 season.

He’s gone. Let him stay gone.

You're a weird dude. Bu the way nick is wrong. The saints would take payton back.

Payton just doesn't want to coach here any longer.

Because they already know he's not coming back. This was all hashed out when he semi retired but they're keeping that personal stuff under wraps. It might come out years later but don't count on it.

I think Payton left on worse terms than is being put out for public consumption.
He wasn't named in the succession plan and the people he made were.
That's why he left.
