Kind of like it was in January of 2006, huh? Only this time we have a functional stadium and its not in a storm ravaged city.

DT - Mason Graham (1st): Easy enough, arguably the top DL talent this draft
OT - Emery Jones (2nd): Sounds like most accounts have him dropping to early 2nd) or Kelvin Banks (OG/OT)
WR - Nic Anderson (3rd): HUGE guy to fit with Olave/Shaheed
S - Rod Moore (3rd): Senior safety coming off a torn ACL. Had huge upside, but this could be a steal here

I’d cut J. Johnson to take the cap hit and draft Mason Taylor in the 3rd instead of Anderson.

But yes, we need to draft and develop well the next two years. I think Fuaga and Kool-Aid were good starts.

I think this would be the worst move. Many players will avoid the Saints based on the racist comments he said. The way it came out was likely shady but there’s no denial that he said the things he said. As a player, how could you trust that he doesn’t really think negatively about you as a person. I believe in forgiveness but forgiveness doesn’t mean you get to have the same privileges from before your mistake.
Plus, I think he’s overrated and his offense is complicated and old school at this point. Not young player friendly scheme.

Good, did he ever make the playoffs with Henry? Not much better than DA

I just don't think you can approach it like that, as good as it sounds on paper.

You pick the guy you think will be the best coach for your team, to get you to a SB. If that's taking a chance on a guy ,great.

You don't pick a sacrificial lamb. You pick a guy to build your culture

Exactly!

You can't go hire a guy and essentially say "It's ok if you suck. You're just here to babysit while we dig out of this mess. Once we do, you can leave and we'll get someone we really want." That would make you lose credibility not only in this search, but future searches as well.

Had the Saints taken that approach in 2006 the "golden age" of the franchise never happens. Payton was in demand. The Saints job wasn't his top choice, but he wasn't some nobody who was just going to be a placeholder. That was at a time the franchise was in much greater turmoil than today. Not only were the Saints a historically shitty franchise, but the home stadium was being rebuilt and there were huge concerns if the home city would be able to support the franchise.

Hire the best guy you can get. If in 3 years it's not working out, make a change.

Where was this logic and realism when I made my thread about this issue a few weeks ago?

There is a big difference between playing with maximum effort and doing the minimum effort while your bidding your time to leave. Players are human beings, not robots.
Successful teams have good environments that players want to be part of. Losing teams have players just getting paid. Same with any corporation or business.

I mean a lot of us wanted him but with our cap situation and aging roster, we’re not going to be view very favorably by HC prospects.

We need to accept the fact we will likely hire Aaron Glenn. No. I don’t believe in Aaron Glenn. But you need a guy that will at least instill accountability and a decent culture while you go through 2-3 bad seasons. He (or whoever they hire) will be fired after those seasons. They’re just a name to guide the ship while we suck.

Which is why I think they’ll hire Glenn. I don’t think Glenn will be a successful HC here, BUT I do think him working under Payton and Campbell will have him instill accountability and a good culture in the locker room while we suck - unlike DA. He will be eventually fired but I don’t think he’ll be viewed as a sacrificial lamb to anyone but us. It’s also Mickey’s MO to cling to Payton and his leftovers so having another failed Payton disciple will finally get him to go outside of Payton and find fresh blood and ideas for the HC after the rebuild.

Don’t get me wrong. I’d be happy if Glenn guided us through the rebuild and took us to the playoffs with a young up and coming QB. I just don’t think that’s what’s going to happen

After 26 I would expect double digit wins out of a good coach.

Why? We haven’t drafted well since 17? If the same clowns are making the picks this isn’t a slam dunk we’re at 10 wins plus in 3 years. I can tell you any of the 3 QBs on the roster isn’t the answer for a playoff run.
