Many of these roster moves will be announced and reported ahead of that league deadline, so we’ll be tracking everything live as it happens in the days ahead. Be sure to check this space often for the latest news, and check our Facebook and Twitter feeds for updates.

Smith will be back on the PS I’m sure if he clears waivers.

Definitely. They cut him early so that hopefully he gets lost in the shuffle with other teams focused on their cuts. Hope it works, but they really had no other choice with the way the roster shook out in preseason.

How long does the waiver process take? Is it like 48 hours then we can sign him to the practice squad?

Smith didn’t look like an nfl back. Probably why he was one of the first cuts

Brian Allen has that pick against the Texans.

And then he became the worst DB in NFL preseason history.

There will be RBs available who actually looked good in the preseason. Saints will make an offer for a couple of them, maybe even on the 53 to guarantee they get him. Smith will be the final last resort on the PS

I agree. I could see why he was hyped up because he looked good is shorts and shells, but he ran with no balance and didn’t break a single tackle that I saw.

The former LB'er perhaps could make a better FB in the nfl. His one cut or none, and hit the defender as hard as I can may work better there

He didn't really show much of anything to be worried about losing him on either side of the equation.

Most teams aren't going to look his way, and if a couple of others do and we lose him it isn't a huge blow. Seems like a life time 4th stringer at best, and those are a dime a dozen around the league.

If he clears he'll be on the PS. If not we'll find a similar young player for the spot.

Kelly cut with the Penning news is a bit surprising.

Yea woulda been nice to draft Dameon Pierce with one of those late round thirds that we traded to get Olave for. He was one of the rbs I was hoping we would go for before trading the farm away.

I'll take the top young receiver we were lacking over a postion that is much cheaper and easier to fill through free agency, and we already have a young stud at.
