Gary wanted to buy the team and had agreed in principle with Shinn. At the last minute Shinn tried to screw him over and go up on the price. This I know first hand. Chouest wanted to buy the Hornets!

Maybe, but only thing owners care more about than their club is their money. Fertitta would be great for the bottom line!

Well, if he got ahold of the Saints, that may stop his pursuit of Texas legalizing gambling and building casinos over there.

It would crush the LC & Shreveport markets overnight if that ever happened…

A move from the New Orleans market is going to happen.

Not buying them (even with a last minute price hike) was the biggest blunder of his life. He really pussed out. They are worth at least 4 times what he would have paid Shinn and it's only been 15 years of so.

seems like he'd be a best case owner for us. Deep pockets, regional ties, and seems to be the right level of active owner you want.

I'd be for it but I don't see Gayle selling anytime soon

Agree, but no matter who comes in NOLA will have to up its game. It’s currently at 50 in metro population and worst in NFL in Fortune 500 companies.

If Helen Moreno elected with more woke DEI policies driving business and population out the Saints will be moving. It makes no sense to have a NFL team in market 70 when Toronto, Mexico City, San Antonio, Orlando, Salt Lake City are wanting the NFL.

Out of all these cities, only Toronto and SLC are viable threats as FL already has 3 teams and owners would block. San Antonio / Austin zero chance as long as Jerry and Stephen Jones own Cowboys.

Toronto is very unlikely to build a $2 Billion Canadian football stadium, which is what would be needed. Canada is such a small market - people overrate it and act like it's a mini America when the entire country is basically Texas.

SLC already has NBA and new MLS and NHL franchises. They'll need a new $1 billion arena and then would have to build a $1.5 billion NFL stadium on top of that. SLC also seems to prefer MLB to NFL.

We're safe unless another hurricane hammers NOLA in a Katrina type fashion

You can’t be so sure of that. State governors and political pressure can be enormous to accept a viable business was like the NFL and you gloss over the need for NOLA to improve and get its house in order.

There is a reason every time a list of vulnerable franchises are written the Saints are in the top 3 of likely to move.

Stop focusing on the other cities and do more to help NOLA. They need their Sid Edwards.

This hasn't been a thing since like 2005. I bet you can't find one such article from a legit media site from the past 10 years that lists the Saints as likely to relocate.

Even when we were awarded the franchise in 1966 it took Texas money and an owner to close the deal and own the team. If I recall it sold for $8M to Mecom family.

Even though NOLA was a much better city and a top 20 TV market in the late 60s we still couldn’t find a Louisiana owner.

WRONG.

There were multiple prospective owners back at the time of the franchise being awarded to New Orleans. These included William G. Helis, Jr., Edgar Stern, Jr., and Louis J. Roussel, Jr.

However, Mecom was selected over the others for a couple of reasons:

1. "It is not simply that Mecom is recently arrived in the game. For several years he was spoken of as a potential franchise holder. If the conflict with the AFL had continued and the NFL had ever decided to expand into Houston, Mecom would most likely have been selected as the representative to stand up against Bud Adams and the Oilers. That was when Mecom seemed to be highly favored in Pete Rozelle's court.

In those days Mecom, Bedford Wynne and George Owen were a threesome at NFL gatherings
"

---Sports Illustrated, December 9, 1968

2. Dave Dixon had already launched a search for a prospective owner who could come up with more than $4 million necessary to buy at least 51 percent of the team, and it led him to John Mecom Jr., the son of a wealthy Texas oil man.

Dixon and Mecom soon concluded a handshake deal in which Mecom would become the majority owner of the Saints, and Dixon would get a 20 percent interest in the team and become its general manager.

But according to Dave Dixon's son Frank Dixon, when all was said and done, Mecom reneged on the agreement. He allowed Dave Dixon only a five percent interest, and he hired a former NFL front-office employee to manage the team
."

-- New Orleans Magazine, Sept. 30 2016

Like the team having the name "Saints", Mecom getting the ownership was a done deal, but not because there was no Louisiana owner available.

That poster is bottom tier on this board. Constantly about relocating the team and is almost always wrong. Total clown.

I could see a new owner moving the Saints to Paris or Amsterdam to be a travel partner with the London Jaguars.

At least Fertitta owns the Papadeaux chain so that’s close enough on the Louisiana ties.

LOL, Papadeaux is owned by the Pappas Family.

Landry's Restaurant, which Tillman owns was started by the Landry family from Lafayette, but they started in Houston.

Tillman has a rough business history and is kind of a POS, Saints fans don't want him.

I have no clue why any of y’all think this will happen. Has zero chance. The nfl loves Nola and saints control three states in their geography. They are in a way better position than a one city team.

Now we do need law and order in Nola, actually a non radical DA
