I really don't understand why people get so worked up over how much teams pay players. For one thing, it;s not your money. For another, when have the Saints ever not been able to go sign somebody they really wanted because of how much they were paying someone else?

Hey I’m all for giving him what he’s asking IF Mickey can pull it off without hurting the franchise pocket book.

Yeah and that's the thing... almost every year I hear how the Saints are in cap hell and yet every year, Loomis finds a way to make it work.

The people that are all on board with bringing Drew back: Do you realize that we already will be paying Drew $21M, plus let's say it is $28M bringing his total to $49M? $49M for any player, let alone the 2020 version of Drew Brees is a terrible plan. Also for your argument, set the actual dollar amount aside, and let's look at the % of cap. What % of cap will Drew be getting paid in 2020 compared to where's he's averaged the past 10 years or so? If it's the same or roughly the same % then we are paying way too much for a 41 year old QB. We have a good roster, but still have holes to fill where that extra money would do a lot of good

Uh, do you realize that one year deals literally destroys your salary cap. Its not a five year deal for 30 per year, which we can structure etc.

frick man.

We couldve signed him to a 3 to 4 year deal a few years and have flexibility, etc. But no, Drew is getting one year deals because blah blah, doesn’t know how long he’ll keep playing.

Its Farve all over again. Packers cut ties when they had to for a reason. Also Rodgers was ready to take over. Took a few years to develop and then bam, they looked like geniuses.

I think Teddy is ready. Pay him a reasonable deal, unless Drew will take one.

We wont tho. Drew’s playing better than Farve was and Sean wont betray Drew.

Ehhh. Drew is still elite. So Im good. But the future is being compromised dont lie to yourselves.

I'm not opposed to paying players what they deserve. But you do realize that the reason QBs are making so much money is because of the likes of Kirk Cousins, Alex Smith, and many other mediocre QBS getting paid 25+ Million in offseason bidding wars between bad teams.

Then, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and the guys that deserve that kind of money end up making more than that bc of the bad contracts of bad teams on average QBs. This cycle is what needs to stop.

They already paid him that $21 million, do you even know how the cap works? Even a little bit? He won’t be making $49 million this year....

It’s not what they make, but how does it effect us signing or keeping players. We have a ton of contracts coming up (Kamara, Lattimore, Rankins, Ramczyk, etc.).

They can kick the $21mil further down the road when we don't have a really good roster and aren't competing.

I love when people say "do you realize" when in fact they are the ones who actually have no clue and don't realize. What a terrible post

Say what you will about whether the Saints should pay Brees. I personally think they should for a lot of reasons.

But your argument is one of the worst I’ve seen. The salary cap is a real thing. I’m really not sure how anyone wouldn’t realize that.

Meh. I'm not seeing him slip tackles like he did as a rookie. I'd let him walk at this rate.

Whether he already has that $21M in his hand or not does not is irrelevant since it will indeed count against the 2020 cap. You cannot give him another $28M without probably having at least $10M of that adding to his existing cap putting him at roughly $30M and again putting a shite ton of dead money to the following year for a player that likely would not even be on the roster

We've made the playoffs a few years in a row, that's real good, lots of teams cannot say that, but we've still ultimately failed our final goal. Keep doing what you always do and you'll get what you always got. We cannot keep kicking dead money to the next year when we have team that is just a few pieces away from being in the Super Bowl with or without Drew Brees

I do not oppose Brees making that kind of money next year, but I would LOVE it if took less to allow the Saints to spend more money on free agents.

After seeing Brees in that suite last night I fully support giving him 3 years $100 mill
