The value of the Davenport draft pick

2 first round cost to us...
you got guys like Carlos Dunlap, averaging 7.5 and 8 sacks a year getting a 15 mill a year 3 yr extension.
Davenport cost of draft value and cap value is tremendously great for our organization so long as he develops and produces.

He will be better than Dunlap.

How did it cost us two first rounds when we essentially moved up in the first round for this years draft..?
I understand it cost us one...

Bc we traded next years first round draft,
To get Davenport, we used this years first (traded up) and next years (traded away)
I swear this concept brought out all of the retards

Yeah, so we didn't lose a first round pick this year, we traded up, so I'm still trying to figure out how it cost us 2?

It's really semantics with the wording.
They had to use 2 first round picks to get him.

People keep forgetting that we also threw in the first of our two 5th round draft picks. Here are some of the players who were available with that pick:
5 147 Los Angeles Rams Micah Kiser LB Virginia
5 148 Pittsburgh Steelers Marcus Allen S Penn State
5 150 Cleveland Browns Genard Avery LB Memphis
5 153 Detroit Lions Tyrell Crosby OT Oregon
5 155 Los Angeles Chargers Scott Quessenberry C UCLA
5 156 Denver Broncos Troy Fumagalli TE Wisconsin
5 157 Minnesota Vikings Tyler Conklin TE Central Michigan
5 158 Cincinnati Bengals Andrew Brown DE Virginia
5 160 Los Angeles Rams Ogbonnia Okoronkwo LB Oklahoma
5 162 Baltimore Ravens Jordan Lasley WR UCLA
5 163 Washington Redskins Tim Settle DT Virginia Tech

Extend Ginn and Morstad with the cost savings

If its not a top 3 round pick who cares. These guys fell to the 5th because people dont expect them to be anything more than ST players. If theyre anything more, it was either very late development or extremely good coaching.

quote:No one said we "lost" a first round pick. It's didn't fall in between the sofa cushions. We know exactly where it's at. And if we didn't send it to GB we likely don't have Davenport. Thus to acquire Davenport it cost the Saints two first round picks.
yeah, so we didn't lose a first round pick this year, we traded up
How is it that people struggle to grasp this?

The cost of moving up in the draft was one first round pick.
The cost of acquiring davenport was two first round picks.
Pretty straight forward.

It “costed” us two bc we used one on him, and traded one away.. we lost a total of 2 1st round picks to get one player
It’s like saying Alvin Kamara costed us a 3rd round pick last year

I am intrigued by these two...not intrigued at all by any of the 4-3 DEs available at 27 or later in terms of value...Kemoko Turay is the next guy I think that fits our profile of what we were looking for and he went at pick 52.

Right, we switched this year's picks and gave up one next year. So, we gave up one first round pick. OR, we gave up two and gained one, so two minus one is still one--the one we gave away.
Edit: to be sure, what people are saying is that literally, two picks were given up, but that is a gross number of picks. Just saying two implies that was it, we lost two. It doesn't account for the one we got. What everyone else is saying is the net number of picks back and forth is what matters, and that number is negative one. So, we ultimately lost one. Literal versus practical.

People playing around with the semantics on this is so aggravating.
We USED two first round picks on him. That's not debatable. It "cost" us another first round pick to get a higher first round pick.

God damn dumb fricks. We acquired a first round pick that cost us two 1’s for the pick.

Well this thread got derailed quick! I’m excited to see what Davenport can potentially become for the Saints!
