Nothing's offended me. I'm sure you're well aware of the situation going on with Nicks, if you don't agree with me, then that's fine. I'm not going to sit here and post links and tweets all night so you can nit pick on them to help your argument. I have better things to do than get in a dick measuring contest on the internet. You have your opinion, I have mine.

Wonder why the Saints didn't really communicate with him until now and waited to make a last minute offer??

Just wondering...seems a little unusual they way it is going down.

It might have something to do with the final cap number being unknown until today.

I would cry tears of joy if we pulled this off, keeping Brees, Colston and Nicks. Heck I'll just take two. Brees/Colston or Brees/Nicks

I'd love to have him back, but that's gonna be a ton of money tied up by two guards. Loomis obviously knows what he's doing. Curious who's going to get cut or restructure to free up the money.

Maybe they weren't sure how much they were gonna be able to offer him until now. What with all the restructured contracts and whatnot. just a guess

There is nothing wrong with that.

Agreed. But, I'd rather have Brees/Nicks. As long as Brees is upright and throwing the ball, he'll find whatever receivers are out there.

You and I are very close to being alone in this regard.

I don't understand why two high priced guards can't co-exist, but a high priced center and LT, or LT and LG is alright? The Saints will never pay big money to the tackle position while Brees is here, mainly due to his pocket awarness and movement.

You didn't use any logic, certainly none of mine in that entire rambling.

a billy Madison scene comes to mind here

I think I'm ok with him leaving.

We do have more pressing needs elsewhere

I feel like people don't get it.

1) Guards are crucial to the Saints offense. It's a big part of the reason we wnt 13-3 and should have beaten the 49ers.

2)We have more pressing needs because we have Nicks.

The cap issue blows my mind everytime. How do we have less than 6 mill and we're trying to work out deals for Nicks, Colston, Drew long term, and other tom's dicks and harry's out there? How is this possible, yes i understand we can shed some more but to that extent?

Isn't it possible to borrow against next year's cap? Or did that change with the new CBA?

I have a hard time believing we're gonna tie up 100 million in two OGs

so sick of people saying this

Evans has 28 million left on his contract + whatever prorated bonus hasnt come through yet (I think he has like 7 million over 5 years?). We would have to give nicks like 70 million dollars in order to have 100m locked up in guards.

I'd wager we still would be right in line or underneath the other highest paid lines in the league. I bet this list also coincides with the best teams in the league.

I'd rather spend a 100m on guards than tackles in this system aswell.

ETA2:Yes I have this shite clipboarded

ETA3: Anyone else think that maybe this means Brees will play with franchise tag? How can we attempt colston and nicks without that happening. Holyshit, the tag might be used as it is intended even if the money isn't in line.

I don't know how, I don't know the numbers, but I know Mickey is not trying to sign these guys without Drew Brees' long term contract in mind first and foremost.

With two NFL All-Pro's on the interior & an NFL All-Pro QB, yes...you pay your line the big bucks when you've gotten that kind of quality out of them.

The Franchise tag allows Loomis to "pause" the negotiations with Brees. We can get Colston and/or Nicks done now, possibly add defensive help and then restructure/cut as needed to get Brees' deal done. Instead of Brees' deal being the first piece of the puzzle, it is now the last.

Hopefully we can pay him enough to come back. Drew's success can be largely attributed to having such good guard play. I'm starting to think Brees might be okay with the franchise and is waiting on his contract in order to get these guys signed long term.
