WWL is now Christian Garik and Zach Strief. Not long ago it was Buddy D and Jim Henderson. Crazy

Hiring Strief as PBP is exactly the same as hiring O as LSU HC.

Neither is qualified but they're "local." I love Strief as a guy but this is just the kind of backward, stupid arse inbred logic that makes LA a joke of a state.

It's so tribal and political that all rational thought goes out the window.

Except WWL is not owned locally. Entercom had to sign off on this hire.

This has less to do with homerism and more to do with cheapness.

I like zach strife, great player, great new orleanian , but not so great at play by play. He may grow, but he's thrown into the fire.

Joel Myers was available.

Zach should have duece's job

I think he would be a great color guy and eventually he may grow into a pLAY ×play but he's not ready yet.

All of this. It's not like WWL didn't have other options here. They could have put Zach on the sideline and Joel on PBP to give Zach time to learn. They could have moved Deuce to Sports Talk and pre-post game shows... Garic, Deuce, and Bobby actually are pretty decent together... and put Zach on Color.

I just keep having to go back to, cost must have been a thing.

Jeez people. He’s two games into the preseason. Give the man a little time to grow into the new job.

He can’t grow into a professional radio voice. He’s amerture at best. Never should’ve been hired.

he takes the ball at the goal line. he brings it up to the 20, he makes the tackle at the 22.

He will get better, but I'm really curious how he was put through all these "mock games" and the higher ups at WWL were like, "that's our guy."

I don’t think I agree. While Strief is certainly way behind all the other candidates in terms of experience, he’s used to making more money than all of them. I doubt he’d have been willing to take the job if they weren’t going to pay him fairly

Here's the problem with that statement. An NFL PBP position is not a "grow into" position. It's supposed to be a professional hired to do the job because it's the pinnacle of that line of work.

This is just problematic of the media direction the organization is taking right now. (you know the saints had a hand in this) Strief is horrendous. I've heard HS football guys call games better than him. He's terrible at this job and has no business sitting in that chair.

This coincides with the utilization of SP's daughter in a position she has no business in either. She's got no credentials, not one bit other than she's his daughter. How much experience does she have to start off at the NFL level of Journalism? None. She's being fed questions with canned answers.

The public has been fed self made news for too long and most will accept this. Personal opinion, the hiring of Strief and Megan are simple opportunities for the organization to hear only what they want you to hear.

I'm just disappointed that WWL went from the flagship radio of the south to what it is today.

here's the problem with your post. you have zero credibility on all of your opinions and wrongful assumptions.

He seems like a very smart guy who wants to be around the game of football. If I had to guess, I would assume he saved and invested his money wisely. We know he has the brewery, I would assume he has other investments as well.

In other words, he probably doesn't need the money.

If you want to stay in the game after you retire, really the only two ways are as a coach/front office, or in media. He may have decided he didn't want to do the coach/front office route, so this is the other way.

I may well be wrong, but I can't think of anything else that makes any sense to me. NFL Radio play by play is not the place for someone with no experience to learn.

he made over $25MM career earnings
he doesn't need the WWL paycheck, which is why i suspect they hired him

I haven’t had the chance to listen, but I expected him to take awhile to get the hang of it. Ihope he pulls it off. He’s a good guy.

There is a reason that PBP guys exist and are rarely people outside of broadcasting unlike the color commentary position.

Hiring non-broadcasters in the latter position has proven successful over and over again.

The thought that someone, anyone, can just learn how to be a pbp guy is folly. It actually takes real talent...something not everyone can do. If you don't believe me, go listen to the broadcast.
