don't understand. When was an extra 1st given up for Olave?
I thought both trades just ended up being swaps of first?

There was no “extra” 1st, per se

But they gave up 1.16 in a swap the same way the Saints did in the Ricky Williams trade when they have Washington the 12th pick,

Im not all too concerned with swaps, but the guy that just posted the Ricky Williams bundle felt the need to include the swap, which I did not include in the OP

but you use the draft value chart it comes out as an even trade.

Which one?

All the analytics guys I follow with modern charts said that we did not win the chart value comparison.

And Lester’s Point is he better be amazing otherwise we traded a lot for a WR2

If Olave becomes an elite receiver next to another elite recover than it was worth it

If we traded all that to get a Robin, wel there are complementary WRs in the 2nd and at 16.

You do know the Saints had 18th pick to begin with, right? It was free

I’d love to see a career upvote vs downvote for Lester. It has to be really swayed to the down side.

I used draft tek and its subjective depending on where we pick next year if you assume we pick 25 or later its even if we pick earlier than that we lost.

*Edit* Not sure what they used to value 2023 and 2024 if you assume we pick in the same spot then yeah it was a bad trade. Im assuming we pick much later. I guess that is the gamble part of it.

he can’t include the 2023 first and 2024 second then since that was used to acquire the extra 2022 first

If the Saints make the playoffs the cost significantly decreases.

Why I think he did that is because you are including a swap as if it was a draft pick on it's own.

All in all
The saints did not lose a 1st round pick at all.
They just swapped their 2023 for a 2022.

Including the 2023 1st is the same as saying a Davenport is 2 firsts. It’s misleading. We moved the 2023 1st to 2022 and up at the cost of a 2nd/2 3rds and a 4th

That's silly

How is that silly? It's context and how trades actually work. Trading for a 3rd rounder is not the same as trading for a compensatory 3rd rounder in value.

Silly would be thinking it is.

This makes no sense. Literally no sense.

We already had a 1st rounder. That, essentially, was Penning. His cost has nothing to do with what 16 cost, and then 11.

It's trading for a late 3rd, which has the value of...a late third. It's not devalued b/c of its origination.

one thing folks aren't really discussing here is that we got another year of a first round player out of the deal

we also got the optionality of a fifth year on rookie contract for both, which adds flexibility to the salary cap

the extra year pulling forward a 1st round player + salary cap flexibility in 2026 are nice benefits
