NFL says no-dat to local shop owner
I went to high school with this stores owner, she has some cool shirts and sells the Saints shirts in mens sizes.
But she got in trouble with the NFL and apparently everyone else selling fan shirts is getting in trouble as well. Even without using Saints logos.

Everything should not have to be NFL licensed should it? WTF? Some LSU merchandise is not collegiate licensed. I just think you need LSU's approval before you do sell their stuff. Should be same with the saints no?

The NFL protects its brand and doesn't care about the consequences because they know you will watch anyway.
There will be several more stories like this until kickoff. Including stopping local churches from showing the game to its members.

She said and the letter linked in the story mentions a case of LSUvs "some clothing company" in which LSU sued only over the use of its colors.
I am not familar with the case but I think it was the rebel flag thing.

I am pretty sure you can sell a shirt with a generic "Who Dat". However, in combination with team colors and fleur de lis it begins to "infringe" on the team's/NFL's mark.

Pat Riley actually trademarked the word "threepeat". Whenever it's used on a commercial product he gets a royalty.
When Steve McNair finished Heisman top 3 at Alcorn State and was a top 3 draft pick, some enterprising DJs in San Diego trademarked the phrase "Air McNair". Steve took them to court and managed to win back control of his own nickname...

Think about it... 'Who Dat' came into existance in 1981(?) by a N.O. fan with the chant. So a Saint fan should get the trademark instead of the NFL. Now the NFL does have the trademark on the Saints, and the black and gold, but that is it.
