C.J. Gardner-Johnson has limited his activity in recent practices as he seeks a new contract, per source.

One of the league’s top slot cornerbacks, Gardner-Johnson is entering the final year of his contract.

Pay him… he has every right after seeing the “business side” of thing during the Watson trade rumors. He has earned it as well.

Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but isn't Taylor sorta his replacement?

He’s most likely not getting any type of big contract. I think that’s why they drafted Taylor. It gives them more flexibility if he asks for too much money. It’s unfortunate because he’s a fan favorite but I think they are already investing a ton into their secondary.

I view Taylor as a boundary corner to push Roby and Adebo

He’s a guy you gotta find a way to keep. Sign him now are he will be too expensive next year.

He’s a playmaker and changes things for the defense. Those guys don’t come around often. Plus, he’s a fan favorite. As soon as he signs an extension, I’m ordering my Ceedy-Duce jersey!

I'm not sure what you pay him. Guess the top slot corners are probably reasonable

quote:

Per Over the Cap, the current highest-paid slot cornerback in the NFL on a per-year basis is 2019 Detroit Lions signee Justin Coleman. He inked a four-year, $36 million deal that pays him $9 million on average, edging out Baltimore Ravens cornerback Tavon Young ($8.6 million per year) and the recently signed Chris Harris Jr. ($8.5 million per year). Yet, all those players hover around 20th overall in average salary at the cornerback position.

Yep. It might not show up in his stats, but his attitude and after-play extra-curriculars are worth a win, maybe two, above replacement.

Our defense seems to really fall down a few notches when he isn't on the field. No reason to drag this out. Pay the man.

if he is reasonable...yes, pay him.

however, if the other DBs pan out like they seem to be, then you can just as easily trade him. there are positions that this roster could use improvement.

9.5-13.5 mill a year is probably the range but this is a strange contract situation. Chauncey is unique in his skillset.

That is a huge range. If he wants to be paid like a top slot corner, get him signed. If he wants to be paid like a top CB, we may have no choice but to trade him.

That would have to be one hell of a 'pan out' in 2022

I see him as a semi coverage safety type which is why he can make the argument upwards of the 13 million range imo. I've already made the comment of Taylor being a possible Ceedy replacement and got downvoted into oblivion cause i knew this contract issue would be pending.

Seeing as he’s top 3 in slot snaps for DBs since he entered the league, I reckon he should be paid as a slot CB.

Taylor needs to show that he can play at a high level in this league. He hasn’t done that yet. Pay 22!
