That head coaching “search” a couple of years ago is still infuriating

Quite frankly, it was lazy af.

They didn’t even bother to interview some of these up and coming young offensive minds.

I mean he said from the jump they wanted as much continuation as possible and didnt want a complete overhaul.

Im still not mad at the choice to make DA the coach and try to keep as many pieces in place.

Im at least willing to see if Loomis is willing to correct his mistake.

I dont care about what he said today... what he says and what he does over the offseason are 2 complete different things.

If Loomis overhauls the staff and drafts a QB all is well. But screw him if he looks at this year and does nothing to remedy it.

Literally anyone else. Go back to that thread, any thread during our “coach search”.

SFP, me, Les and others alllll knew we would hire DA and that it was the wrong move simply because everyone knew we weren’t having a legit search. They were gonna go with DA no matter what for “continuity” and it was the safe hire. Players still believed in him, he got along with Loomis and Ireland and the rest of the Front Office. It was a no brainer to them. That’s what pissed everyone off. They were fricking lazy.

I didn’t want DA but I understood why Loomis and Ireland made the choice. But like you said, it didn’t work out. Now what happens? If Loomis brings DA back for a third year, he’s putting his job on the line for DA

People are saying we should have hired Pederson but if i recall, at the time, many werent thrilled with that hire either.

I kinda disagree about Loomis job being on the line. I mean it should but he has built so much equity with Gayle he may as well be part of the ownership

Doug Peterson was the obvious choice. LA connections, Super Bowl pedigree, from same tree as Payton ... we gave him a fricking Zoom call

Keeping Eric B around for 8 hours just to let him go is embarrassing.

The whole offseason was a comedy of errors

Agree with all this.

BUT, considering that the job was to sustain and not build means that the cord should be pulled even quicker on this abysmal failure of a staff. It’s not like you are in a rebuild. You are Nero watching Rome burn.

Pederson, McDaniel, etc. were not options, sadly.

I was anti-Allen but I'm not sure who would have come here.

And teams in the nfl have no choice but to make a "search" even though they may already know who their guy!

Pederson would have made tremendous sense. He was a Super Bowl winning coach, and offensive mind and while Reich got a ton of credit for Philly's super bowl as their OC, he hasn't really lit the world on fire outside of that.

Pederson struggled at Philly because of poor QB play. He got stuck with Wentz who poisoned the team and has done so everywhere he went.

He should have been the hire seeing as he turned around a garbage heap into a division winner and playoff winning team.

no he isnt, and the problem is he knows he isnt because there is no one to fire him, he knows he is immune.

Unfortunately, he has by far the longest leash of any GM in the NFL

It was. Continuity be damned, he was a loser with the Raiders. I despise retread hires in the NFL.

Reminded me of Chan Gailey to the Bills.

As you all know I was all in on the Harbaugh train. He interviewed with Vikings and was supposedly floored when they ended up going with the other guy at the last second. Peterson was my second choice. I wanna say there were a lot of posters saying Reich was the one responsible for his superbowl. That statement isnt looking so hot right now.

Think I even predicted Allen would be a major mistake and he’d be fired after year two. So far I’m right on target.

DA will return and the offensive staff will be completely rebuilt. The experiment of trying to maintain Payton's offense has been a failure and they will kill it. Defense will remain intact with DA.

I believe the only question is will they retread an OC or will they find someone new with their own offensive personality to implement. Problem however is the new OC will be saddled with Carr who has limited skills.

This seems the most likely way it will work out. Don't feel great about the next couple of years. I think we need a reset.
