Bunch of depressed Eeyores on this damn board. Woe is us we’re going to get a bad deal, we have no leverage, blah blah
He’s a proven Super Bowl winning coach. There is no pick off limits. Period.

True, but the only one so far not very appealing is Texans. But he may like the area so who knows.
He's already talking up Arizona. He already speaks highly of Kyler.
Denver has Walmart money. Everything can be fixable with that budget. They'll absorb whatever cap hits they need to to make it work.

Give us the Browns 23 and 24 1sts.

I would guess harbaugh and Payton will be the most pursued guys out there. Be nice if harbaugh signed first or stayed at Michigan

If Harbaugh stays at Mich or went to Denver for some odd reason, that would be ideal to me actually.
It means the Colts enter the equation and you have the teams with the picks 2-4 all in play, and all have a decent amount of picks that could still be good in future years given the rebuild for all required.

I think we can mostly agree that the Texans are the team we probably want him going to the most, and the Rams the least.

I hope we get one of those top picks so we can debate the top available QB’s 24/7 until April

What’s the appeal of HOU for CSP?
- Draft capital - can get his QB of the future with 1.2 and build out a roster with the rest
- Tons of cap space and no dead monies - CSP can pretty much go Madden franchise mode with HOU. Ego gets stroked when players will come to HOU to play for him
- Low expectations to win right away. Again, ego and legacy comes into play if he can turn around two shitty organizations
- No powerhouses in division
- no income taxes
… what else?

Its easy for him to get anywhere from Houston too, huge metro area with some really nice places to live, lots of money, huge international airport. Closer to Dallas/NOLA and can get to LA easily.
Downside: ownership is not well thought of, to say the least.

HOU makes most sense for us with 1.12 and a 3rd but doubt Payton wants to go there. I think Arizona would part with their 1.3 but nothing else because they already have a QB.
We could take that pick and draft Stroud

payton to hou for 1.12 and some change.
hou trades 1.2 to bal for lamar.

Payton/MT for 1.3/Hopkins????????
Nfl rule you can't trade players for coaches. So any players in the deal would have to be a separate trade

If we get 1.3, I wouldn't be surprised if we had to send something in return. That's a ton of value for Payton as a straight trade. I'm fine with trading some other pick or picks to get that so we can get Stroud.
If we get 1:3 we’d almost assuredly have to give something back. I do agree that Arizona is a little different situation given they have their qb.

Texans are the team i've been hoping would jump in. Didn't know if Payton would bother.
Houston automatically wins the offseason if they start camp next season with Payton and Young/Stroud. HUGE win for them.
That should make them giving up the 12th pick + stuff for Payton a no brainer. Thats the best pick we're going to get for him.

If the McNair have any savvy and really want Payton, they could sell him that job in 30min

Let the bidding war commence. Leak background “discussions and movements” to get max value and make them all outbid one another.
End result: Saints win

If you’re an owner and your franchise has never had an elite tier proven head coach you absolutely gotta give up whatever draft capital it takes. What was the overall value of the Saints franchise before Sean Payton came to town? What was it when he left? Just like a generational QB, a Super Bowl caliber coach lifts the esteem of an entire region and fanbase. Add a coach who can develop QB’s like Payton? A new face of the franchise? You pay pretty much what it takes, especially in a competitive market.

Three coaches hired/fired in three consecutive years is big red flag.

Won’t happen if they are paying you $15mil a year
