FG was the right call.
Yes, you can end the game right there with a first down. But diminishing chances to lose is more important than ending the game quickly with a win. If you make a FG, there is no realistic scenario where you even go to OT. So what if it takes longer to get to the end.

What types of facts are you looking for? I would prefer to have a guaranteed field goal and a 3 score lead over an unlikely first down. Giving up 3 scores under 2 minutes is exponentially harder than giving up two.
