I had hoped that Dalton would be the successor to Brees when the writing was on the all that he would not be long on Cin his last two seasons. The saints can absolutely win with Dalton running this offense.

He is better than most young QB's out there but teams overlook that to develop the young QB for longer stability. My predictions is that if Winston misses week 1 he will have a hard time getting the starting QB spot back until Dalton shows the offense does not perform at a high level under his command.

Its not a difficult prediction. If Winston is not ready for game 1 then he has not played in preseason. No way DA goes in cold with Winston week 1 and no way DA benches Dalton if he is winning or running the offense with a high QB rating.

Dalton was not the problem in Cin. Cin could not put all the pieces together like the saints have been able to do. The saints offense is a perfect set up for an older veteran that has throwing accuracy. Older vets are still in the game for a reason, they know how to read the defenses and play the game.

most here feel Dalton is ready but I assure you he is not.

So the guy that has made 3 pro bowls, career 62.2 comp percentage, and thrown 226 TD’s in the NFL over 11 seasons….isn’t ready?

What exactly do you think he’s going to see in preseason that he hasn’t already seen?

So Pete Carmichael and Dennis Allen who get paid millions to coach and manage the roster say 1 series was enough….

But they’re wrong because Morpheus says so(even though every piece of NFL history and any other quantifiable evidence says your wrong)

Got it

Am I missing something here? All I’ve read is that Winston’s injury isn’t significant and he should be good to go.

Seriously wasting good practice time for Dalton right now

its pretty simple, dalton is a vet and showed he has this offense working well even without the starters so nothing more you need to see there.

like you, i thought it looked so good i wanted to see him have a second possession series.

this weeks game you should see a lot more of him and the starters should be playing at least 1/2 game if it follows past years patterns at second to last preseason game playing time.

unless they will just forget the final game being all scrubs with no starters playing, they might do it that way, we just have to wait to see what happens

You’re missing the fact that this board is very dramatically when it comes to injuries. Some players deserve the doubt, others don’t make sense (like this injury). There was also another thread w a poster claiming he’s friends w a doctor that was on the team that evaluated JW and said it would be 6-8 weeks because he needs surgery. EVERY other source is saying a few days w some implying he would have played if this was a regular season game

Dalton is a proven QB. He showed that in his bried play against the Texans. He will be the backup to Winston, no doubt.

No, you must be a Mensa applicant. Why even risk getting your key back up hurt in a meaningless game ? Especially when there are questions about the injury status of your starter. Subjecting him to getting beat up in an exhibition game like the first one is ludicrous.

We saw what we needed from the first series....a more than competent back up.

You can win games with Dalton, our skill position players, and our defense. Hell, you could make an argument that he fits our offense better than Jameis right now.

I’m in this camp here. Dalton is a damn good quarterback to have the records and pro bowls he’s had playing for one of the shittiest teams in the league.

I believe he may flourish in a saints style offense with elite support at every position. If he’s an above average qb, he’ll make the record books with the saints. -bookmarked for future reference.

This thread is crazy- it's preseason.

QBs- it's apparent Jameis is the starter. We haven't seen him, but I understand he looks the best in practice. Better than Dalton.
Dalton looks solid, and he looked good on his one drive.

Ok, that's fine, box them up and wait for the season to start. We just spent over half a year without QB1, don't risk them in exhibitions.

Book looks bad... fine. He NEEDS to play in these. You already know what the others can do, you want to get Book as much work as possible, and try to get him to some level of competence (or ultimately decide he's not ever going to be what you want). If we have another worst-case scenario and you're starting your 3rd string guy like last year, he needs as much as you can give. And remember, he's really 4th, because Taysom is still on the roster as emergency.
If both Jameis and Dalton go down, you want Book to at least challenge Taysom as the next up, so you give him as much reps as you can in the preseason.

Thankfully we have a backup with experience. Hopefully JW will be ready to go when it counts. What do you prefer we do.
