FWIW

quote:

Last night, SI’s Albert Breer reported that the Saints, Steelers and Chiefs are all looking to trade up in round one of this year's NFL Draft. So, the question is, should the Saints trade up this year? And who might they want to trade up for?

Let’s start with the obvious. The other day, it was reported the Saints were “digging deep” into Pitt Defensive Tackle Calijah Kancey. The 6’1, 281 Ib DT would fill a huge need for the Saints on the interior of the defensive line.

For a while, it seemed there was a good chance that Kancey would be there when the Saints pick at 29, but new reports have come out saying Kancey is generating “Top 20 buzz.” Could the Saints be trying to make a move to go get their guy? History says yes, but it would be bold to trade up for an undersized DT, even if he has major upside athletically.

If the Saints decide to go this route, the Lions at 18 seem like a perfect fit. They have already explored trading down, and that would put the Saints firmly in the top-20 with a real shot at landing Kancey.

Every team inquiries about trade up and trade down scenarios with other teams prior. Otherwise you are not doing your job as a FO.

I’m gonna be pretty pissed if we trade up with Dennis Allen as our head coach and a lot of needs on our roster.

Of course, but the guy from Si mentions 3 teams in particular, the Saints being one of them. He seems to be talking about something more than normal due diligence

If you’ve been a fan of this team the past 20 years then you shouldn’t be surprised. I’d be shocked if the Saints make a selection at pick 29 tomorrow night.

I would really hate that, but it wouldn't surprise me at all

I am close to certain it won't happen but I sure wish they would stick with their 8 picks. They have several needs they could address with them including valuable depth. Moving up will likely cost them 2 of those 8 picks.

I’d hate kancey at our current spot, much less trading up for him

well you better start drinking now and not watch the draft because they 100% are trading up and giving away one or two picks for next year to do it.

but we all share your sentiments about it.

Come on guys, you know the drill by now. You’ve seen it for years under this FO.

The selection in the 1’st will be someone out of left field NO ONE saw coming.

I can guarantee 2/3 of those teams trade up. Chiefs will go after one of those top 2 OT. Saints will move up and grab someone for us to be pissed about until season starts.

The front office just can’t help themselves. Why not TRADE BACK for once? But nope, let’s piss away picks… AGAIN.

It’s sad!

Or just guessing based on our history.

A coach that may be gone next season does not accumulate draft picks. I expect the Saints will move up.

I feel pretty solid in my opinion that if the Saints trade up it will not be for Kancey.

Exactly, keep the picks and add quality personnel to the roster. IMO the difference between picking at 20 or 40 is minimal this year. Let this unfold and be ready to take the guy to upgrade that targeted position group.

Trading up for a DL would absolutely be on brand for the Saints
